Farewell to my West Wing loving gran
In the recent topic on what to watch after the West Wing, I added a comment describing my enjoyment of watching the West Wing for the second time in the company of my grandmother but that sadly she had been too unwell since the summer to resume our West Wing viewings.
Sadly my gran lost her brave battle at the weekend and passed away peacefully. At her funeral today the eulogy given by the minister made touching mention of how much gran had enjoyed the last couple of years when Jet, my faithful dog, and I would visit her each week for dinner and then watch (sic) 'West Wing', adding 'now you may know what this is but I don't'.
So, firstly we need to spread the good word on the West Wing amongst the clergy, though perhaps not the 'when the president stands, everyone stands' clip.
Secondly, as tribute to my dearly departed gran, I am now vowing to resume viewing from where we'd reached - midway through season 5.
First tonight, I will remember her whilst watching our two favourite episodes, 'Two Cathedrals' and 'In Excelsis Deo'.
Rest in peace, gran.

Sorry to hear about your loss.
Chin up, old chap.
I'm so sorry, Andrew.
Your gran sounds like a wonderful woman. Coincidentally, last night, this year's re-watch of The West Wing, chez Bob, got up to "18th & Potomac". I'm out tonight, but tomorrow, we'll be watching "Two Cathedrals".
I shall raise a glass to her. All the best.
Your Gran
was a woman of uncommonly good taste. Those are my favourite episodes too
Agreed
Those 2 episodes are wonderful.
Sorry to hear
your news. I need to restart my rewatching of The West Wing, you've reminded me.
Sad news, Andrew
Your OP touched me greatly and the fantastic intro scene you posted made me laugh out loud when Bartlett says 'He said it right.', even though I've seen it half a dozen times. Your Gran sounds like a wonderful lady - and I wouldn't mind betting this was one of her favourite scenes. Wonderful tension over the years until, finally, finally....I can't listen to this track now without tearing up at the thought of Josh & Donna finally giving in.
Thanks
I wasn't the one that started the original topic though, merely one of the many who responded to Captain U's wonderful entry.
We only reached the fifth season so sadly she never got to see the culmination of the Josh and Donna story, or how things changed or ended for any of the other characters.
If only we'd had just six months more we'd have been able to reach the finale.
Don't worry
She will have enjoyed the shared time with you and the occupants of The White House more than you know. I have some experience of this with my own Mum. She had some sense that she didn't have long, even though we didn't. The shared time together, just watching the telly, made her so happy. Enjoy the memories and be proud.
Oh, by the way, I'd watch the rest of the WW soon, on your own, with several glasses of your favourite tipple. It will help.
Sorry for your loss
Once Christmas and the chaos of getting sorted for it is out the way myself and the FPO are starting West Wing from episode one after years of her pestering me to watch it and me resisting (not sure why). Am looking forward to it and hopefully we will enjoy sharing in the experience as much as you and your Gran did. All the best and hope you enjoy your Chirstmas despite your loss.
