Fanfarlo - track 2 on The Word CD. $1 for their whole CD!
Posted by Neil Jung on 13 June 2009 - 8:00pm.
Just to say this band is fantastic, in an Arcade Fire meets Midlake and The Decemberists sort of way. The whole CD called Reservoir plus extra tracks is downloadable from the band's website for only $1 (that's about 66p to you, Guv). It really is *adopts Whispering Bob voice* very fine indeed. Get it now from www.fanfarlo.com If you don't like it, I'll refund your money (*).
(*) Well, I won't but you can afford 66p can't you?
PS You can pay by Paypal.

Neil, on the strength of numerous recommendations
I nearly bought a lovely looking ltd edition cd of this from Rough Trade. Didn't get round to it, and is now i believe sold out. So this will do very nicely, thanks.
Fanfarlo was one of the standouts from the latest cover cd, along with 'oi va voi' and 'sparrow and the workshop'. Strangely the track i was most looking forward to listening to when i first saw the cd, 'the mummers' is probably one of my least favourites, bit to much forced 'kookiness' for me
Can't complain at that price...
...Downloading now. Song on the site sounds pretty good.
Thanks for the recommendations
I would say closely related to Beirut as well. Downloading nicely as we speak - great value for a buck !
Word Magazine - good compilation CD this month - loads to investigate further !
My pleasure
This month's CD is pretty good. Last month I didn't like a single track!
Didn't like it.
And Oi Oi Va, who I wanted to like, were spoilt by the lyrics, that reminded me, in a strange way, off that "Going to Ibi(t)za" song from a decade or so ago. Like opera sung in english, this sort of music needs the disguise of foreign language to dissipate its banality.
Stonking review in the weekend newspapers, tho', so I may be tempted to dig a wee bit deeper, as I like what klezmer I do know, and always feel the clarinet a much maligned instrument.
Both Oi Oi Va and another culturally related group are on at the Lichfield Arts Festival this year, Moishe's Bagel, who sound a better bet, so I'll get back to you.
