The Walls
The Berlin Wall:
The Wailing Wall:
I've been to Kent, Gwent, Senegal
I've even been to look for Jim Rosenthal
Found him on his knees at the wailing wall
Crying, "Bob Wilson, anchorman"
Here's one...
They made a habit of that sort of thing
Finchley Central
At Finchley Central station there's a plaque/display dedicated to Harry Beck, creator of the London Underground map in 1931, to whom I am proudly related.
Though I seem to remember my Dad saying that they put it at the wrong station, and that it was East Finchley that Uncle Harry used to use.
The Pyramids
"Charlton Heston" by Stump:
Two Empire States
Mercury Rev:
Alicia Keys (minus Jay-Z):
(Hmm. Not mentioned in the lyrics though...)
Here's another.
"In the Colosseum" - Tom Waits
Literal soundtracks for holiday videos...
how is
deleted due to NRTFFP, oops
It has to be Spinal Tap
Stonehenge. (The song kicks in at around 1:03)
Five Bridges
across the Tyne (as were) - The NIce.
A few more
Winter Hill
Well it's famous up here.
I like this game
Bit tenuous in terms of landmark, but it's cracking tune, so...
A short list
As always...
Bowie - Pallas Athena (Ancient Greece)
Daniel Johnston / Tom Waits - King Kong (Empire State Building)
Mos Def - Katrina Clap (Dollar Day) (New Orleans)
Thom Yorke - Harrowdown Hill (near Oxford, place of David Kelly's supposed suicide)
Saul Williams - Telegram (Harlem / Brooklyn)
The Divine Comedy - National Express (ok, more of an institution, but still, good song!)
6 in 1
Six landmarks in "Life is a Minestrone" by 10CC (along with some terrible wordplay):
"I'm dancing on the White House lawn
Sipping tea by the Taj Mahal at dawn
Hanging round the gardens of Babylon"
"I'm leaning on the Tower of Pisa
Had an eyeful of the tower in France
I'm hanging round the gardens of Madison"
Abbey National
Groovin' at Tintern Abbey...
and then to...
Headless Cross
just up the road from my work in North Lanarkshire, a tune and an album by Black Saabbath
