Facial Hair - The Facts
In the light of the now regular, if not frenzied, monthly predictive bearding, I thought it might be useful to analyse the frequency with which facial hair graces the cover of the magazine.
The results are:
Editions 01 - 10: 1 Beard 9 No Beard
Editions 11 - 20: 0 Beard 10 No Beard
Editions 21 - 30: 1 Beard 9 No Beard
Editions 31 - 40: 1 Beard 9 No Beard
Editions 41 - 50: 1 Beard 9 No Beard
Editions 51 - 60: 1 Beard 9 No Beard
Editions 61 - 70: 7 Beard 3 No Beard
From which I conclude that this is a very 2008 thing. But as to why, I can't explain it; can you?

Yes I Can.
During times of economic hardship, people tend to increase the amount of hair on their heads.
Mid seventies, three day week, miners strike, top level inflation. Loads of hair and beards like George Best, Noddy Holder, Jeff Lynne.
Late Eighties, Black Monday, Interest rate hikes and Big Hair like Heart (god bless the Wilson's!). Maybe not so many beards though.
2008. Credit crunch, the end of money, Beards.
See, simple really.
It can only get worse then
Perhaps we will see the advent of even more body hair on the cover - no, perhaps not. Best kept inside, I think.
Trivial hirsute
Why weren't the pictures used for the John Lennon and George Harrison covers beardy?
Any women...?
Apart from Dido?
Women - No Beards
Joni Mitchell (twice), Amy Winehouse, KT Tunstall and Bjork, plus an honourable mention for Meg White as half of the White Stripes - that's all in addition to cover that dare not speak its name.
Ah,
but dare you speak it?
I really can't
bring myself to hit the keys that spell ****. Sorry, it's just a phobia with me. You could say that I've run up the white flag on this one.
Did you see what I did there? OK I'll get me coat.
Boom-
and, indeed, boom!
why are most
magazine covers of middle aged bearded blokes yet the attached cd sleeves are representations of young sexy semi clad exotic females? Is the idea that one counterbalances the other?
