Eurovision song contest 2011

chabsy's picture

This has got to be the best yet. I don't normally watch it but 'SO LUCKY' (Moldova} had strains of the Pet Shop Boys and Devo, 'I WILL be popular' (Sweden) was insane, and Witloof Boy! (Belgium), crossover Manhattan Transfer was appalling, but strangely compelling, and the best name EVER came up; Dino Merlin. Go Euro! And top marks to Scott Mills and Sarah Cox.
Saw his docco on Uganda just before this, excellent. I feel strangely good. And no, I'm not drunk.

Ding Dong

That's not just a comment on your praise, it is also the title of the Israel song performed by our old friend Dana International.

Lets get this party started. Virtual Eurovision tomorrow night anyone?

Events have conspired

To leave me at home tomorrow evening where I have agreed to watch this thing with my daughter.

I haven't done so since Cliff and Co were involved.

If there's no last minute salvation I'll be here!

Does Katie Boyle still present it?

Get with the beat Daddio

Terry Wogan is not involved either. Daughter1 and I will be feasting on beer and crisps throughout the evening and laughing like drains at what constitutes entertainment in far flung states of Europe. And Israel.

Very excited here

Watched the first SF on iplayer yesterday, truly shocking entries from Portugal, Malta, San Marino to name but three. Will be there 8:00pm with our BBC score cards - only question is when do the kids (9 and 8) have to go to bed? The compares for the SF, including a German comic, are also well up to snuff (ie more wooden than my bedframe) and good things beckon.

We will be up for a liveblog and will have twitter open.

If we're gonna do this properly we need two things

1) Scoresheets available here later today http://www.bbc.co.uk/eurovision/party/scorecards.shtml

2) Lots of Beer, available in several outlets I'm given to understand.

Perhaps first to arrive can set up an appropriate thread just before 8?

Sounds good to me

this is what the Massive is for!

I watched it on German TV

last year. It really wasn't the same; the bloke doing the commentary on ARD did it in a very matter-of-fact way.

Bring back Terry. I haven't heard Graham Norton doing it; is he any good?

Will be out

at Staff Benda Bilili but Sky+ will be used to provide my Sunday entertainment. I've developed a softspot for strange Balkan/Arabic brass disco which seems to crop up regularly.

Come on you Blue....(mind you, I've not heard the song. is it any good?)

Yes!

Although won't be virtually contributing (except perhaps the odd Twitter comment) because I (and nine others) will be at my friend's house making the most of it. Love it, me.

I once had a Eurovision party and everyone had to bring a dish from one of the countries represented. Gawd, there were a lot of potato-based dishes.
