England are never going to win anything ever again but never mind, it's Ringo's birthday - the podcast

David Hepworth's picture

ImageIn which we welcome our man Jim White back from the World Cup to deliver a first person account of the cack-handedness of FIFA, the inability of England players to hold instructions in their head for more than two minutes, the irresistible attraction of 40 blondes in orange mini skirts and the staggering size of the African continent. We also mark Ringo Starr's 70th birthday today with Mat Priest of Dodgy, a drummer who knows what's involved in being Ringo in a Beatles tribute band, who introduces us to the work of the amazing Batmankozyy (below). Happy Birthday, Ringo, from all of us.

My God, he's fantastic. Sadly I am 200 miles from my kit at present otherwise the neighbours would be getting an earbashing. Fellow sticksmen, have a look at his Strawberry Fields. He also replies to all the nice YouTube comments.

Shouldn't that be

'The England Football Team (Men's Version) Are Never Going To Win Anything Ever Again...?

We're quite good at some other sports, I've heard.
And we have a decent women's football team. So...

Just brilliant,

and listento that bass part; astonishingly good. The single B side that inspired a whole career, yet which effortlessly transcends anything the Eyebrow Brothers ever did. What a marvellous lesson in elegant simplicity.

Hope he had a nice birthday

but I have to be honest, the podcast section on the drumming was more than I needed to know.

Drumming versus F**tball

I must disagree. I loved the drumming stuff, which made up for most of the podcast being about journalists covering a game apparently involving a round ball. (OK, to be honest, at least it wasn't about the game itself. The journo stuff was actually interesting. Which means the whole podcast was interesting. No change there, then.)
