Anyone else having problems with their recent updated system?
Problems logging in, unable to save for later, downloading not working.
Had a look in their forum, and it seems there is a lot of unrest about the recent site changes. Any responses from emusic moderators seem less than satisfactory.
Anyone got better info about these changes? There are some contributors talking about logging out each time before logging back in, along with having to clear cached settings, etc, but this seems pretty unsatisfactory.

Yes
I cannot download at all. V annoying.
Luckily my month's subscription
has been used up so I haven't had chance to try and download anything. But it is a right mess, I can't seem to save anything for later, not sure what they are playing at...
Yeah me too
they've completely buggered it. I don't know what's going on. The revamp was clearly not properly tested before they rolled it out.
I managed to download something on Sunday but only by getting the latest version of the eMusic Download Manager (version 5), logging in via the dreaded MS Internet Explorer instead of Firefox and then downloading the LP a track at at time rather than the whole album at once.
I can't believe they haven't sorted it yet. Getting people to pay for music is already a precarious business model as it is.
The only plus side is that when you bring up an LP page it has a nice big view of the record sleeve you're looking at. Much better than looking at a thumbnail.
More info here, and a form you can submit to tell them what issues you're having.

Since I mainly look at classical
it was bad enough trying to find anything before, and now it's impossible since Friday's changes - I haven't tried downloading yet.
Like Amazon, they have people filling in the metadata who don't have a clue what is necessary. Beethoven Symphonies 'by' 'the soprano who sings for about two minutes in the 9th' is no help to anybody.
I'd never considered that
how do other download services compare for cataloguing Classical recordings, iTunes and so forth?
Don't know about iTunes
since I won't use anything Apple, but I think I saw it once and it was like the others. Passionato and classical label sites are much better, but generally have too much information in the filename: I've had some where the filename was more than 255 chars and wouldn't play in Windows Media Player until it was shortened.
Downloading
I did manage to download something last night (in bulk too rather than track-by-track) but the Save/Add To List options still don't work for me.
I'm on V5.0.2 of the Download Manager and running IE8 if that helps.
Agree on the site design though, it's a mess and vey obviously had minimal testing before it was released.
Awful
The new design is awful. I know I'm a saddo but for at least the last 10 years, every day, I've looked at the days new releases. I tend to rely on reading for this (rather than looking at pictures!). Now, they've enlarged the sleeve pictures and reduced the text size so it's hard to get more than about 6 on a screen at a time and there's no "date added" so I have no idea if I'm looking at todays or not.
I understand that they want to change the look of the site and that it's one of the main criticisms leveled at them by new customers that the site looks old fashioned.. and it's new customers that they charge the highest prices to so it's important to keep them happy (or just keep them).... but the new design is stupid and hard work. I don't know why they didn't leave the old one working in parallel (at old.emusic.com for example) so that we could use that if we wanted to, after all, I'd be surprised if they've changed the database that the site looks at to compile the pages.
Not tried to download anything yet, I usually use the emusic/j downloader but I shouldn't think that's going to work anymore.
I have been spared any problems with eMusic
mainly because my broadband (and phone line) has been switched off. Virgin couldn't install because of block paving (who knew?) and Sky promised to continue my service only to turn it off 3 days later because it "was too late to stop it".
It's a shambles
I managed to use this month's subscription, which was a bit of a faff, but couldn't save albums for later.
I have now suspended my account for 60 days to see if they sort it out.
Went back to it tonight
Managed to download some tracks (slowly) so used up the rest of this month's allocation in case it continues to have the same problems as the last few days. Still no "save for later" available, and logging in remains speculative to say the least.
What I find strange is that there was no notification/email from emusic informing me of this change, as they normally bombard you, eg asking you to rate albums that you've only downloaded one track from.
Glad to read some of the more technical minded answers above, as I was thinking it was down to some basic misunderstanding on my part. It would seem that the simple answer is that emusic have just screwed up. I would think that a lot of accounts will close if they don't sort it soon.
You're right, El Hombre= it's a shambles.
I filled in their questionnaire
about the changes, and tonight I got an email telling about some changes they're going to make:
Visual Modifications will make the site easier to read and will surface some of our most used tools, including Save for Later.
Find Music browsing, including Freshly Ripped, will be filterable by date added to site.
Personalized Recommendations are being revamped and will be returning to the site in an even better form.
Improved Search to help you quickly and easily find the music you're looking for.
They also gave me £5 credit on my account: since files are 42p each, is it really beyond their comprehension to offer an amount that is a multiple of 42? What do I do with the notional 38p which will be left on my monthly allowance? (not for long, it expires after 30 days).
Not the same price for everyone
It depends when you signed up - early adopters pay significantly less than that (if they have kept their subscription going all the time).
I didn't fill in any form but they still emailed me telling me that they have added £5 to my account.
(Even though I suspended my account because of the shambles to see what it was like after a couple of months)
I Think
I think I'm right in saying that everyone pays the same amount for tracks but depending on how long they've been subscribers, they get a different amount of credit. All the monthly amounts credited are exactly divisible by 42. I pay £12.75 but I get £37.80 credit.
You've been on longer than I have, then
I pay £14.99 for my £37.80 of credit. I wish they'd return to the number of tracks system - I hate having to divide every amount by .42.
you're quite correct
oh dear
Haven't tried downloading as I used last month credit up a couple of weeks back, but really frustrated by the apparent loss of save it for later. I used that a lot. Here's hoping they bring it back.
Save for later
is there. Click on the + next to the download box. Works for tracks or albums.
I missed the opening week as I have been without broadband. But I'm not having any problems with it to be honest. And they gave me a £5 credit so am actually quite happy.
Thank you
I hadn't spotted that - much appreciated
Got the email too
Same wording as mentioned above, though I never filled in any questionnaire. £5 in my account, but not plucked up the courage to try them again, mainly because I ran out of patience with their new set-up when I first wrote here.
Might try over the Christmas break. Looking forward to others comments to see if it is really sorted, as the email didn't fill me with confidence.
Despite the unhelpful design
I've had no problems with Save for Later or downloading.
We're all getting it
There's now a statement on the site that reads:
So it looks like we'll probably all get 11.9 free downloads. One day I assume we'll move toward the US pricing model and the method will all make sense again - I'd love to know who thought that it was a good idea to use a counting method that requires us to know our 42 times table!
working again
Just used my free tracks to complete my download of Goldheart Assembly"s Wolves and Thieves album (thanks Word CD compilers for the nudge on this one).
Everything worked fine. I could download direct from the webpage and not have to open the download manager and go into emusic that route.
I hope they have sorted out their problems. I really like emusic. The site is full of great music especially in the international section.
Great
I just got an extra £5 credit for having popped in to the site, thought "that looks new", didn't actually do any more than that so missed out on all the problems. Taken a punt on the David Lynch album in consequence
