El Hombre Awakens Primeval Urges

drakeygirl's picture

You know you're truly 'Living The Dream', when you're setting your guitars up for a gig and a breathless, buxom woman runs to the stage, simpers, and hands you a 'baggie'.
Primevals guitarist, landlord of the Aspidistra & Handstand, and all-round Word Massive good egg El Hombre Malo, took it all in his stride, though. He correctly guessed that the 'wrap' presented to him by Hannah, this Parish's most celebrated baker, contained items of chocolatey delight rather than illicit substances.
Minutes later, his pork pie hat tilted at a suitable rakish angle and his Telecaster turned up to 11, Senor Malo and his bandmates let loose a rejuvenated blast of their 25-year-old brand of garage rock.

It was a genuine thrill for this bunch of Word Birds (Me, Hannah, JoLean and Katy, plus honorary Word Bird Joe R) to be in the audience to see our favourite Jock 'N' Roller strut his mean and moody stuff on stage.

And throwing caution to the wind and breaking all the Word 'how you should behave at gigs' rules, I got my camera out. Pictured below is El Hombre back in the saddle (you may recognise the T-shirt design from his avatar).

A YouTube video and an exclusive pic of Señor Malo surrounded by groupies is in the comments...

of The Primevals playing Ho Chi Minh City, from their rather splendid new album Disinhibitor. (El Hombre steps into the spotlight rather effortessly at around 1:35):

Here's another shot of The Primevals on stage.

I reckon our man’s about to break into a Chuck Berry duck walk:

And here’s the Hombre harem

Just minutes after some debauched groupie antics that seemed to leave everyone very pleased. I can't reveal details. What goes on tour stays on tour:

Great picture

We do all look heartily pleased with ourselves. It was a lovely night. Thank you Drakey, JoLean, Hannah and Joe for a most entertaining pre-gig dinner. And thank you El Hombre for the fantastic music. That youtube clip is great Drakeygirl, well captured!. Did you happen to get a clip of El Hombre's magnificent slidey solo?

I've never used the video setting on my little camera

before, and was slightly alarmed by the battery indicator going down at at breakneck speed, so just did the one song. I had to save some juice for the groupie session. ("")

You hussies!

You girls look like you know how to party. I think it's only a matter of time before the band get the nod for a Word In Your ear gig.

Way Hey!

That's my mate that is! Hello! Fantastic to see you.

Living the dream, El H.

MikePaterson | 11 April 2011 - 8:38am

sitheref2409 | 10 April 2011 - 1:26pm

ganglesprocket | 10 April 2011 - 2:03pm

And here he is...

24 hours later, giving it some widdle in a packed pub in Brighton. He'd like me to point out that's not the same shirt.

my ears

are still ringing from the majesty of El Hombre and amigos in the flesh. Splendid night out, a lovely bunch of guys, and a most enjoyable bevvy with the good Captain. Hope you made the last train.

gchip | 12 April 2011 - 1:38pm

I did, thanks G

Although it was a bit of a struggle fighting my way out of the mosh pit and through the surging crowd to the door.

Thank you all

We had a great time at both gigs, and I really appreciate the support I've had from my friends here.

The t-shirt is from a limited print run by Malo Enterprises, based on the Bud Neill character - they're not in the shops.

If you contact me, I can email you the image and you can make your own

In case anyone wasn't aware...

There are now companies on the Interweb who, for a reasonable price, will let you upload an image then order all sorts of one-off merch with your image on - shirts/hats/mugs etc etc.

Cafe Press were, I think, the first and are still probably the most famous but I've recently had good experiences with yourdesign.co.uk who, being UK based are considerably cheaper but offer a much smaller (and more conventional) range of items than Cafe Press - no underwear, clocks, watches etc. I assume this is the result of some new technology break through as the quality is as good as you'd expect from a long-run print shop - no tacky transfers or complicated washing instructions!

I forsee a line of Malo Merch!

Breathless, buxom, simpering...

Yup, that's me, guilty as charged.

Anyway, I had a completely cracking time. Thanks to El Hombre for providing the motivation for the night out, as well as the blistering soundtrack.

Drakes, Katy, JoL, Joe... splendid to see you all, as ever. xx

Hannah | 11 April 2011 - 2:45pm

Phew! Rock 'n' Roll.

Marvellous stuff, only wish I could have been there. BTW my friend enjoying immensely The Home Demos & the Roberta Flack not to mention the Etta James. Grooovy indeed.

Pencilsqueezer | 11 April 2011 - 4:02pm

But, but, but....

...it's a Stratocaster!

Minutes later, his pork pie hat tilted at a suitable rakish angle and his Telecaster turned up to 11,

Hey, I held out as long as I could.

1
skirky | 13 April 2011 - 11:13am

Ah, but

he had more than one guitar. Only one hat, mind.

1
drakeygirl | 13 April 2011 - 11:30am

Hey El Hombre

great to see you doing a proper job for a change!! Get yourself a gig sorted in Brum - El Toro and I will spread the word. Unfortunately we cant offer the Buxom groupies unless Hannah, Drakeygirl, Jolean and Katy want to venture beyond the capital.
Thanks for the Godspeed you black emperor cd by the way - you cost me a fortune as I just ordered their complete back catalogue.
