Dylan - Radio Hour Volume 1

RobertC's picture

I got hold of this 4 cd set from my local Library yesterday. I didn't get to hear much of the actual series, only snippets, but what an absoulutely wonderful collection this is. I'm flabbergasted. Every single track is a classic and hits you instantly. My two favourite compilations so far are Chess Pieces and The Legendary Story Of Sun Records. I now have a Holy Trinity with 'Radio Radio'. If you like the real classics and marvellous curios from the past, this is a Motherlode. Stunning.

It's All The Tracks

selected and played by Bob. Unfortunatley his brilliant dry gnomic banter is not included. I missed most of them due to shift work patterns, and I was unable to hear them on my frequent trips to Southern Ireland. It would be wonderful if the full shows were released, but in the meantime the music really does transport me to another time, another place. Beautiful. By the way, Stimpy, a chum who has exquisite taste informs me that there is a Grateful Dead internet radio show. Is this so ?

The complete TTRH shows have been torrented

in three 'complete series' packs. Not sure I'd listen to them more than very occasionally but Bob's links do make for a wonderful listening experience.

www.dead.net have been running a 'Grateful Dead Radio Hour' for a about 15 years now). The content varies but always includes plenty of live Dead and Dead-related material. There's a link at www.dead.net

http://gdhour.com/logs.php is an independent index of the shows

Additionally, dead.net run a Grateful Dead Channel via Sirius XM satellite radio. Schedules at http://www.dead.net/features/news/sirius-xm-grateful-dead-channel/latest...

This might be of interest

There are also numerous torrent sites around, although I've never got the hang of 'torrenting'. I have copies of the first two seasons (kindly donated by a friend) and it's all great, transports you to another world.

Hey Mikhail

Thanks for that link. I may finally get to hear them all. Is this businees legal and safe ?

Bittorrent per se is perfectly legal and safe

although people do, of course, use it to illegally circulate copyright material. Equally, many people use it to distribute material to which they own the copyright. It's just a 'distribution methodology' that doesn't require any central servers or control.

Think of it as the equivalent of making a tape of something and passing it to a friend - it's no more or less legal than that, depending on what you choose to 'put on the tape' :-)

For what it's worth, my personal view is that if material is commercially available then I won't torrent it but if the owner hasn't (yet) chosen to make the material commercially available then I'll happily get it via Bittorrent. So, I have no problem with torrenting bootlegs or off-air TV shows but I, personally, won't torrent CDs or DVDs.
