Download alert
Up until very recently I have not really downloaded too much music. Certainly not from Amazon or ITunes - never saw the point - physical product was always more attractive and still is in most instance. Some pricing doesnt make sense. Following the recent blog about Steely Dan I decided to update my IPOD with all the Dan/Fagen stuff not on there. Unfortunately it appears my 'Countdown to Ecstacy' has gone walkabouts. The choice on Amazon is £4.99 to buy it and over £7 to download it. Er guys, it is a no-brainer.
Anyway cut a long story short I found by accident there are bargains to be had - the latest David Ford album not even released here yet is available for download at £4.49 and for sale at over £13 - another no brainer. Sun Ra - Space is the place for less than £4.00. I ordered the latest Bobby Charles cd from Amazon and the bloody thing hasn't arrived yet - could have got the download instantly for half the price.
I think we should have an alert system when bargains become available so that we can all take advantage of them should we so wish.

The flip side is also true
and whilst it may rankle the purists, there are some download bargains to be had. In light of the recent Stranglers thread, Amazon are offering the complete UA singles box set for £5-83 as a download. That's a lot of songs!
Completely agree though. We need to have some sort of alert mode - it was thanks to the Massive that the Seinfeld box set from Play sold so quickly.
Agreed
I was thinking along similar lines after downloading a load of stuff at giveaway prices thanks to it being flagged here.
Perhaps we could use this thread. All it needs is a 'count me in' comment and the tracking thing on your account page will act as an alert to any new bargains.
Edit: It might be simpler to use the favourites option.
I'm not a downloader but
I did download the complete works of Steely Dan box set when it was on sale for 7.99 or something. Two Ipods and computers later I have no idea where those songs are but I still have my vinyl copy of Can't Buy a thrill bought in 1978. There's a lesson there somewhere ...
And surely the lesson is
to remember to backup your computer regularly? Work on the basis that it will crash and it will be replaced one day but the contents are what are important... :-)
Yes
I do backup, and I have them somewhere, just not sure exactly where! My physical collection is easily found even though I've moved about ten times since I bought some of it.
I was also disappointed at the sound quality but I believe amazon is a bit better in
that regard (than iTunes).
