Don't look Now

Having got myself on a nostalgia tip inspired by Evoluon, I decided to cast my nets further back into the 60s, from when I can vividly remember the Beeb showing, during Children's Hour, a series called "Tales From Europe". This featured, as one might expect, children's stories from around Europe.

Having hit the magic button marked YouTube, I was hoping to locate 'The Boys Who Stole The Moon', a beautiful story from Poland, and post it on here. DId I get it? Better even than that! Follow the link below to the very wondrous 'The Snow Queen'. This scared the very living shit out of me as a Primary School-aged child. I think it was from Russia.

If anyone has the link for 'The Tinder Box', please feel free to let me have it Right Now.

Looks like the initial outside scenes were shot in Tallinn

Das Feuerzeug

German version, but same big dogs!

I loved Tales from Europe, the dwarf in The Singing Ringing Tree was particularly scary.

And also this series, from Belgium - Kapitein Zeppos

Ah. Captain Zeppos.

He had a car that could swim in the water. Brilliant stuff.

I purchased a DVD

a few years ago online, of 'The singing ringing tree", backed up with "The tinderbox". Among the extras are a "Music only" track. Fuck me, I couldn't sleep for a week. Thinking it was only my youthful perception of it I played the two DVD's to my battle-hardened 16-year-old son, who had watched Scream, Saw etc. He commented "That's really screwed up shit Dad. I don't want to watch it again" Touché!
