Does summer music exist ?

vgom's picture

Some music is made for late at night played quietly or loudly in the Dark , other music is made to be played on sunny summer days. following this train of thought i note that the beach boys , the magic numbers , gnarls barkley, the concretes were all on my summer playlist for last summer. i certainly think there are records that i play more during the winter and others during the summer. whilst im here any ideas for this year as summer hols are nearly here !

Summer Breeze - The Isleys

Has a more summery sound ever been heard?

Reggae in all its forms

Was made for summer. Particularly warm summer evenings with a glass or two of something nice.

New additions

"Replica Sun Machine" by the Shortwave Set and "Seventh Tree" by Goldfrapp are new additions to my summer playlist for this year. I think most of the rest of it consists of a Cafe Del Mar compilation, a compilation from Real World called "Gifted - Women of the World" and a couple of Trojan box sets.

Edit: and as of the post arriving this morning I'm adding "Big Blue Ball" to that list.

The last Goldfrapp album

is a classic piece of chilled out summer listening, with echos of classic British psychedelia and Nick Drake.

Still don't quite understand why the Word review was so underwhelmed by it. It's blumming marvelous!

We cant always assume

they have good taste

As I recall

it wasn't that whoever had reviewed it hadn't liked it, but that they'd hoped for another Black Cherry/Felt Mountain so felt a bit let down by their own expectations - which is fair enough, but I'd have thought it's such a good album it wouldn't have mattered.

Hey ho. Horses for courses etc.

This one always did it for me

And still does. Once upon a time they were terrific.

In fact after playing the album New Gold Dream this afternoon its a great summertime album too. As well as just being a great album full stop.

Agree with the Goldfrapp comments

And it's a great summer record. The album that I play often when the sun comes out is 'Wallpaper for the Soul' by 'Tahiti 80'. It's a fantastic album at any time but really comes into it's own on a warm summer's evening.

At last someone else rates Tahiti 80

I bang on about this band and especially that record to anyone who will listen.
