Do You Remember The Last Time?
Now I know that, for some, the answer will be last week but for the rest of us that have mu desire to buy any more vinyl, can you remember what the last vinyl album you bought was? It's one of those things that probably didn't seem momentous at the time so you could be forgiven for not being sure. For me, I think it was the first Carlene Carter album that I bought in a little ship on Music Row in Nashville in 1991. I don't think it had ever been released in England, and I didn't even know it existed (the Internet was still some years away) I nursed it through the rest of my trip and back home before I could listen to it (along with all the cds I bought because I didn't even have a portable cd player back then).

Do you mean new or second-hand?
Second-hand - Paul Simon's One Trick Pony in, I think, 1997
New - Fishbone's The Reality of My Surroundings - about this time 20 years ago.
Blimey.
Pure quality.......
.....for 99 new pence from Oxfam, a mint copy of the 'What A Carry On' compilation on Music For Pleasure.
Music for Pleasure
fantastic label - released more good records than Motown. Budget prices too.
I think they even released
I think they even released some Motown compilations, in the days when EMI distributed Tamla Motown in the UK.
Modern Times
Dylan (!)
£5
In FOPP
It was too beautiful not to buy.
Katzenmusik
by Michael Rother.
Bought it from Ultima Thule in Leicester about five years ago. The shop is no more - although the company is still trading - but I have nothing to play the record on anymore.
Can't remember if it was new or second hand.
Cool
Wasn't he in Kraftwerk for like twenty minutes?
Neuwerk
Both Michael Rother and Klaus Dinger were in Kraftwerk for a while. Actually, seeing as Ralf Hütter was temporarily out of the band at the time, it was more like Neu! plus Florian Schneider, than Kraftwerk plus Dinger and Rother. The only recorded evidence is this glorious wig out on Beat Club in 1971… (Warning: contains dungarees)
Far out! Thanks yorkio
I've seen another clip from this pre-Autobahn period where Florian, brilliantly, is wearing a T-shirt with his own face on it!
And why shouldn't he, the Genius of Energy himself?
I wonder what he's doing now, bless him?
He's still involved in music
but is exploring a slightly different avenue:
Note Kosmische god Klaus Schulze on keyboards!
SLIGHTLY?
Wow. you're clearly into understatement!
Fandango!
ZZ Top. About a month ago.
I hadn't bought a new vinyl LP for decades ... until this week,
when I bought this:
"The Peregrine" by Lawrence English
English was inspired to compose the music after reading one of my favourite books - J.A. Baker's virtuoso ornithological study "The Peregrine" (1967). It's an ambient recording, drone-based, developing slowly and beautifully. I listened to some samples and thought "That's great - I'll buy that CD." But it's not available on CD, so I took the plunge and ordered a great big 12" vinyl record. The run is limited to 500 copies. If you're a fan of ambient music, it's well worth a punt.
Ooh lovely
I didn't know about this, and will investigate.
I like Lawrence English a lot, and have the Transit, Studies For Stradbroke and Kiri No Oto albums and bits and bobs on Room40. Kiri No Oto on Touch is probably my favourite.
Touch Music - 30 years old next year. Get Jon Wozencroft on a podcast!
new 180 gram

The Four Brothers
Good call! Makorokoto!
do you speak Shona Moose ?
one of the great Zim bands was the 4 brothers
Didn't they do
2 albums with this title? One a compo and one not... did I dream that?
JP used to play them a lot.
BTW, I was known as Shona Moose before my, er, reassignment
The Waterboys
A triple live album "The Live Adventures Of The Waterboys".
Never played it though as I bought the double CD edition at the same time.
I bought the vinyl as a completist fan.
A record unplayed
is a lover unkissed.
That said, if you've got it on CD anyway...
Bonzos & Misfits
Selected Purchase:
Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band: Gorilla
Misfits: Walk Among Us & a compilation album of their EPs/Singles/other tracks
Bought from a record fair about 5 years ago
Bulk purchase (ie the lot for thirty quid):
About 75-100 LPs & Singles. Currently piled up in my room awaiting full review.
Amongst the James Last, Johnny Mathis, Barry Manilow etc, I have seen a couple of Who LPs, Roger Daltrey solo LPs, and a couple of Squeeze singles.
And yes, the ubiquitous copies of No Parlez, South Pacific & West Side Story are present in the stack
A Dead Horse
The Golden Palominos circa 1989.
Or, in other words 22 years ago. Fuck me.
Heart of Wine
by Cyrus Gabrysch and The Zizaniques. A few months ago. I enjoyed their session on one of the final Mark Lamarr shows so much I bought direct from the band online. Came with a CD copy too.
It was a Pixies box set
- I can't remember the title. Three or four albums - I bought it after I'd got rid of my turntable for good. I'm sure I had a good reason, but can't remember what it was. Never played it.
I never gave up on vinyl
I bought the new Wilco last week.I have been buying new vinyl for years and still get a thrill pulling the plastic wrap off of a record.
