Do Some New!
Below is the set list for the new Kylie tour, X - and at first glance it appears almost wilfully perverse for a major pop artist.
Less than half of the songs are singles, and it includes tracks rejected from the album. Most of her biggest hits are missing but room is found for a Barry Manilow cover. So is this genius or madness? Have you come out of a gig shaking your head, wondering what the band were thinking?
Does anyone look at this set list and nod sagely, saying "I can see exactly what they were thinking..." or do you look at it and say "This is going to cause a vast amount of displeasure to the one-gig-a-year brigade who normally attend this kind of big pop show."
On the one hand, playing a large chunk of unreleased material along with an equally large dollop of the new album at the expense of 'the hits' is a brave move for any artist, it's surely at huge risk of alienating a substantial section of the audience, spoiled by the all-the-hits-all-the-time nature of last year's Showgirl Homecoming.

I'm ill-equipped to comment...
... as when I actually manage to get out to see a band it's usually with either an entire back catalogue swanning about on my shelves, and therefore I've a good chance of hearing something that's a single in my head, if not in real life, or I don't know anything about them at all and it's all new to me.
I know there are those who WANT to hear the hits, but I've always been a want-to-see-a-show kind of gents. The hits, let's be fair, we hear all the time.
I say good on her, but you're right, it will surely upset some. Hardcore fans, on the other hand, will probably lap it up.
and yet,
my esteemed gig going collegue, you are going to THREE whole shows...oh the horror, the horror.
Hence...
My concern at the set list...
Play The Hits
I suppose Kylie's show, which involves, I believe, a number of costume changes and elaborate choreography is more of a song-and-dance "spectacle" than a standard pop concert where an audience can reasonably expect to hear the hits.
Good excuse to tee up this though. A cracking song and the girls in it are even more gorgeous than dear old Kylie:
Is there a band?
I only ask because those remixes in the setlist suggest you might be in for an evening's karaoke - plus, if you're lucky, the occasional twirl from the Peter Gordino dancers.
(You got me. I'm not a fan, no.)
For the first time ever
She has a brass section. I'm not quite sure why they think that's an important announcement, but I got an email with this vital information earlier. Yes, she does have a live band on stage. How much of the music is actually live, versus pre-programmed, I have no idea.
She's not doing "I Should Be So Lucky"?
Cripes.
Different Show - Different Songs
I agree with the comment above that it's more of a "show" / "spectacle" than a gig so I wouldn't be expecting the hits. If it's staged differently to her previous shows, I think she'd have to do a very different set of songs.
I have a bit of a soft spot for Kylie (don't we all?) and briefly considered going to see her a couple of years ago. I then saw one of her shows on TV.... lots of barely-dressed muscle men dancing and Kylie in some kind of big peacock costume. Needless to say, I gave the tour a miss.
Cher on a budget
Sorry, but it needed saying.
