DLT - the king of unwanted imagery.

Mr Fade's picture

Introducing David Dundas' Jeans On on the latest TOTP 76 he comes up with this amazing line:
"This new entry is all about something that we do first thing in the morning - well, for me personally second thing in the morning."
What could he possibly be talking about? Oh, the horror...

0

One day, around 1985

he announced on air that for the next 2 hours he was going to gift us all with 20 personal revelations. I can't remember them all, but the one that stuck in my memory, like a rogue pubic hair, was No 15: "I don't like the sensation of water on my skin."

Haha!

Would love to hear that! Er, I wonder if there's a site that has bootleg retro DLT chat? *loses marbles*

mojoworking | 13 August 2011 - 3:57pm

well I

put my underpants on before I put my jeans on

0
James Blast | 13 August 2011 - 3:23pm

Well

you're obviously no superman then.

1
Lando Cakes | 13 August 2011 - 3:34pm

What does DLT do first thing in the morning?

Probably has a swing on the tyre in his enclosure.

1
Paolo Meccano | 13 August 2011 - 4:17pm

Yes,

in time to Davy's On The Road again.

0
Mr Fade | 13 August 2011 - 5:51pm

Played on great big headphones

with aerials on them.

0
Sven Garlic | 13 August 2011 - 5:58pm

Whilst 'smoking'

his 'pipe'.

0
Mr Fade | 13 August 2011 - 7:47pm

I stood on DLT's foot at a "do"...

He was a most unhappy hairy cornflake.

Patrick Crowther | 13 August 2011 - 6:04pm

You should have said

"quack quack OOOOPS!" when you did it. I'm sure he would have laughed his head off, given his legendary sense of humour and willingness to poke fun at himself - oh wait, you said DLT...

0
Ruff-Diamond | 16 August 2011 - 5:33am

If looks could kill...

his certainly would have been the end of me.

Wanted imagery

Once saw a bloke at a gig who had a large photo of DLT on his T-shirt. The writing around it said "Terminate with extreme prejudice".

Sour Crout | 13 August 2011 - 7:04pm

It was a bit

near the knuckle for the timeslot and enormous audience, which I suppose was what the prog was all about - something for the kids something for the dads.

Two things I noticed from that episode 1)DLT at that time was basically doing a jimmy saville impression, one forgets how big a star JS was and his influence in mainstrean radio 1 culture, and 2) that pans people or whatever they were called at that time with Flick Colby's choreography were really quite good considering the throw away nature of TV at the time. No wonder they all loathe the association these days with the monster mash ... they weren't a joke at all.

Pan's People...

...little known bit of trivia: Pan's People performed live with Jethro Tull and a string quartet during a little documented run of shows in 1974 (no film, no audio as far as I know). There's a photo of Ian Anderson posing with PP in rather risque T-shirts (no doubt someone will find it and post it below - I'm no good at the picture embedding stuff) and - better still - this studio recording of the piece they featured with, 'Pan Dance, which was later a track on the 'Ring Out Solstice Bells' EP.

Christmas 1980

Photographer: "OK, I want all you tosspots, wankers, megalomaniacs, music haters, mentalists, censorship advocates and Tory endorsees to put on the silly hats provided. Meanwhile, the three coolest people in the room are excused headgear."

Photobucket

(with apologies to Paul Gambaccini and Tommy Vance who somehow ended up in the wrong section and really don't deserve such treatment).

You can almost see the words

"Fucking Hell" emerging from Peel's forehead....

Still - worra buncha pilchards, eh?

0
Ruff-Diamond | 16 August 2011 - 5:30am

Peel looks like he's thinking

"someone please kill me!"

0
mojoworking | 16 August 2011 - 8:05am

Peel looks like he's had

a couple of glasses of Rioja too many.

0
duco01 | 16 August 2011 - 8:09am

Look at that strange man

in the centre. I heard he likes to eat meals. Weirdo.

jimmyshoes01 | 16 August 2011 - 8:58am

Adrian Juste...

....what an annoying, irritating man. I used to absolutely detest his comedy show and hyperactive blustering which seemed to go on for about ten hours on Saturdays. Awful, awful, awful.

Colin H | 16 August 2011 - 8:27am

I had resisted

the lure of the TOTP reruns but found myself in front of last weeks. I lasted that DLT introduction and 30 seconds of the woeful 'Jeans' and did something less boring instead.
I'll start watching again in 2025

Facebook fun!

Dave Lee Travis came up on the People You May Know section of my homepage a couple of days ago.

We have 3 mutual friends.

I don't know him, more's the pity.

Art Vandelay | 16 August 2011 - 9:27am

For your own sake

I hope you "de-friended" those 3,Art ?
