Ding Dong Merrily on Low
Posted by hazeyjane on 21 December 2010 - 4:21pm.
My favourite ever Christmas song is Low's 'Just Like Christmas' - in fact that whole album is just so gorgeous and atmospheric and wonderful, it would make Scrooge himself teary-eyed with festive joy.
Apologies if this has been covered before in other threads, but feeling Christmassy and fancied sharing. If you haven't heard it, have a listen. It's got sleigh bells and everything! And the YouTube clip (below if it works) even has the words on so you can sing along. If you don't like it you are clearly dead.
NB. I like to amuse myself by replacing Stockholm with Stockport in the first line - go on, try it!

Lovely
And now, ladies and gentlemen, check out this drummer dude:
Baby Jesus - born to rock!
I agree....
...the Low Christmas song is the best of the lot. You might also want to amuse yourself by changing a line later on to "By the time we got to Glasgow...". Works for me.
I love
Low's song and that Eels song, the Low track is one of the best ever Christmas songs for me. Last year I discovered a Teddy Thompson Christmas song (called - drum roll - Christmas) which I've also fallen for but alas there is no Youtube clip of it.
Here's Harry instead with Remember (Christmas) which is so sad it makes me happy. It's also got sleigh bells on it so it is bona fide song of the festive season but it's so weepy and epic even Barry Manilow is in awe of it (probably):
I've just realised
that my posting above looks a little insensitive and I wanted to add a comment about the Low song, For me, the best Christmas songs have a certain melancholy or wistfulness - in the melody, words or preferably both.
I had not heard this song before but think it covers the bases perfectly.
I hope you will forgive me for the fat man playing Eels on the drums Hazeyjane.
The Low Christmas song
Got me into the band themselves - it's beautiful. The rest of their output was patchier, unfortunately, but they're still capable of some great moments.
