digital video cameras

badartdog's picture

Hi all.
Anyone care to recommend a cheapish decent quality digital video camera, easy to use with a mac - not planning on making feature films - just vids of the baby for the grandparents and so on at the mo.
I used to do a bit of stop frame animation years ago, may pick it up again - not sure if this will have any bearing on your suggestions.
Any advice gratefully accepted as always. Cheers.

Depends what you mean by cheapish.......

but the Panasonic Lumix range (starting at about 110 quid on Amazon) are all cracking cameras in my opinion.

Flip HD

I truly love the Flip Mino HD. Tiny, robust, about £150, works fine with iMovie on the Mac.

Have a look at the five most recent clips on my YouTube profile to get an idea of what it can do. http://www.youtube.com/user/daddyorchipsblog

Most stills cameras

will take video if you just want some short clips of family and also unlike flip they have optical zoom. The flip style cameras are popular although a good mobile phone will have video of similar quality they just less point a shoot.
Most simple animation seems to be done on web cams or similar. If you want a stand alone video camera you can get hardrive cameras with optical zooms from around £150 I have panasonic which is good.
As usual it depends on how much you will use it.
