Did anyone out there go to Warwick University?
If you've been a student at Warwick University at any point in the past 20 years, and your music taste leans even slightly towards anything alternative, then there's a good chance that you were a part of OFFBEAT, the greatest indie society the world has ever known. And if you were, then you've almost certainly spent many a happy night dancing and drinking in the venue that has been known to various generations of students as The Graduate Club, The Elephant's Nest, but mostly Zippy's Joint.
From June 2008, Warwick Students' Union will start to be redeveloped (or 'demolished'). One of the things that this will mean is that The Grad/Zippy's will be no more. To mark the venue's passing, we're having a massive Offbeat reunion on the last-ever night of the venue's existence. This will be for anyone who's ever been involved in the society since it began back in 1985.
Graduates and current students alike are welcome - however, we'd especially like to get as many old-timers along as possible. Ideally there will be DJs representing every period of Offbeat's history, so if you want to relive your kohl-eyed/floppy-fringed/pointy-shoed (delete according to age) days behind the decks please get in touch via one of these links:
Facebook event - http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=15578415820
Reunion section of the Offbeat forum - http://www.offbeat.org.uk/forum/viewforum.php?f=8
Also, please spread the word to anyone who you think may be interested, and direct them to one of the links above. Obviously there are ex-Offbeaters spread out all over the place, so we're going to be relying heavily on word of mouth to make this work.
TICKET INFO FOR NON-STUDENTS
Anyone can buy tickets for this event via the Warwick Student Union website at http://www.warwicksu.com/ents/event/4816/ - however, if you're not a current student you need to register as a Guest. You will also need to bring ID on the night - a WGA card if you've got one, or any photo ID (Passport, Driving Licence etc) if not.

Damn. Too late again
Story of my life. I was there - er, briefly - in the Seventies, when the Students' Union building was still just a concrete hulk, enlivened only occasionally by the university's four anarchists draping the place with black and red bunting. Yes, that's just how wacky it was.
I still have my library card somewhere
And my wife's. However, we both pre-date OFFBEAT. I don't think I will miss the Union -- it spoiled the view from my Whitefields window.
No
But I was a member of Liverpool University Rock Society. We once went on an outing to see doom metallers Cathedral play in what appeared to be someone's basement.
