dEUS
A band once described by Peter Paphides as "art-wank" but with the caveat that he's also "a big fan of art and wanking", dEUS ought to be elevated to the pantheon of Word-friendly bands.
The latest album was somewhat overlooked in the plethora of end of year lists, maybe because they're from Belguim ("the most boring country in the world" - The S*n), but probably because they're not 'popular' or 'fashionable'. Ever the rebel, I love it, and I think others on here will do too.
Their back catalogue is worth investigating too. They've come a long way since the heady days of Suds & Soda, and arguably have created their best material in their latter period. Here's a couple of cuts from last years Keep You Close....

Have to check that out
I've had In A Bar, Under The Sea for a while, and it's been very slowly growing on me. In a couple of years I'll probably really love it :)
I think
They are great - seen them live a few times and love the records. They can't do much wrong by me.
Nearly forgot - l also have a magnificent poster of theirs that the band signed years ago.
It impresses myself and the GLW but no-one else.
That makes us cool (I think)
OK, we're sad.
PS
Drink has been taken

Saw them live a few times. My favourite time was at T in the Park in 1995 where they had a random bloke sit on stage with them for the whole show, reading a paperback of some description and contributing very little else apart. You don't get that sort of class anymore.
Meanwhile, how does Belgium get to be the most boring country in the world? I'd argue the Netherlands is a lot duller, myself.
