Entertainment For Lively Minds
Delayed Purchase
Posted by Michaelincognito on 1 December 2009 - 9:05pm.
I've just bought, on eBay, the Flying Burrito Brothers album The Last of the Red Hot Burritos. Vinyl - I've never seen it available in digital format. This is an album from which I've only ever heard one track once - on the radio nearly 40 years ago (on John Peel show actually), which in my memory was a blistering version of 6 Days on the Road. It's been in my mind to get hold of this album ever since, but has taken me this long. I was just idly browsing eBay, going through a vague mental list of wanted music and this item was first up under the Burrito Brothers, so I felt compelled to go for it. I hope I'm not disappointed !

I love that record
You can get it on CD - or at least you could once - but it's best heard on an old heavy duty A&M vinyl copy. Peel used to play it a lot back in the day. Parsons had left by this time but they were still a terrific bar band.
Still available, it seems

It's nice when that happens.
I had a similar thing with the first Dr Strut album which eventually cropped up on Ebay. They did Struttin' - the theme to the old Alexis Korner show on Radio 1. Their second album contains a couple of Becker & Fagen tunes for Dan obsessives.
Struttin' is a great track.
It's here:

And this is their debut:

I think it's ok to post these links because if you look at their little known third album:

you'll see that their sax player Dave Woodford left a message in July last year where he seemed very comfortable with the music being available on the blog.
The LA Express album that he mentions is good as well. And in a similar vein, the two albums by The Section - basically James Taylor's 70's band, I think (Danny Kortchmar, Craig Doerge, Leland Sklar and Russ Kunkel) are excellent, particularly the guitar playing. I've only got those last three on vinyl. If anyone knows where I can find them on a digital medium I'd be grateful . . .
A third Dr Strut album! Gosh!
Off to Google.. where can I get it?
First three responses.. the posts linked to above. And Davecowps' post. Everything else in Japanese. As Dave says.. a little-known album..
Where can you get it?
I don't think you can buy it, unless you strike lucky on ebay. But you can download it (as I say above, with the band's blessing I think); just be patient if Rapidshare won't let you in first time:

(Incidentally, the LA Express CD is now available at Amazon)
