in defence of ice-hockey

Given the attack on ice hockey in the mailout, I thought I would chip in a defence. It is one of those games that looks rubbish on tv, like Basketball, but live and up close it is quite incredible. Well at least at elite level it is.
That 9 year old's trick was quite amazing - it will be a pity if he turns into the ice hockey world's Christiano Renaldo.
Besides, those ice hockey guys seem tough - I wouldn't want to criticise the game in front of them.
Any more ice hockey songs apart from Warren Zevon's "hit somebody"

That was a poor attempt at humour, although Hockey is rubbish on TV. But I've been to enough games to know it's much better "in the flesh" than either american football or basketball, which are sports that - at the top level at least - are built for those watching at home.

I have not got Sky so i cant say i see much Ice Hockey but i find the games really enjoyable. I watched the stanley cup final last year and it was a fantastic sporting event. Probably one of my top 5 sports and i have never watched it live. ( Why is it poor on TV other than speed of puck ? )
"Why is it poor on TV other than speed of puck?"
Nothing more than that. I'd argue that being able to follow that on-screen would improve the TV experience by a huge margin.

I played professionally for 7 years and anyone who thinks it's boring or lightweight,I offer my sevices to prove them otherwise. I coach a junior team too and the kids love it. And in the World's two biggest countries it's the biggest sport by a mile.
vgom, you are correct,it is too fast for TV. The cameramen do a great job though. The puck can travel from one end to the other in a blink also it's a black puck shielded by a black stick. Some of the rules ,Offside, can be confusing too and Fraser is also right,Live it is a fantastic event.Any of the British teams offer a great night out but the zenith would be a New York Rangers Home game. It's a must do experience.
New York Rangers
I've been several times. It certainly beats watching the Knicks.
Absolutely nothing to do with hockey....
.....but Kathleen Edwards does a song called "Hockey Skates"!
