Dean Heslop - Real or Spoof?

fist_of_onan's picture

I can't work out if this is a very accurate spoof. Or just unintentionally hilarious. Any thoughts?

Is this part of a viral

Is this part of a viral marketing campaign? He's quite obviously deadly serious.

No, not a marketing campaign

Not by me anyway. I nicked it off the Phantom Band fb page - they are as perplexed/amused as me.

I was sure it was for real until the first perfectly comically timed towel drop. You can't be that funny by accident, surely?

nope

I really hope we have not inadvertently associated ourselves with a viral campaign! we posted a poll asking for help deciding if it was jape or genuine because we genuinely couldn't decide. It was our friend Jack from Get Involved in Newcastle who alerted us to the YouTube video. Saw the website too and thought it was too 'good' to be true. If it's a joke, is it on us? oh I hate this game.

3.17

The dancing sequence from 3.17 minutes is absolutely hilarious. I did a quick google and found his official site. Worringly it seems he does mean to be taken seriously...

I seem to have upset everbody

If I say I'm sorry, can we work things out?

Just to add to the above....

We obviously didn't put enough tongue in the cheek when doing the vid. We thought the cheese was over flowing. We even put in the classic towel drop scene, and then repeated it later on! However, we seem to have inadvertently started a whole "is it real?" debate, and everybodies talking about it, including yourselves, so thank you for that, so we're not complaining. Next vid will just be a black and white performance vid with his band.

So is it a whole album of comedy songs then?

fist_of_onan | 17 December 2009 - 5:02pm

Whole album....

Tell you what, contact me directly/privately, i'll send you a link where you can listen to the whole album. Judge for yourself. You're perfectly entitled to your opinion, so why not review the album and post a blog.

or.....you could buy the album, its available at itunes, amazon etc and then review. ;-)

I think people are being harsh

It's a pretty good pop-rock song, if you ask me. The video is daft, but it's obviously a bit tongue in cheek, as shown by the lass laughing at the end.
