Daddyc's wheels of steel

daddyclark's picture

Lot of serious stuff in the news so time for something lighter I feel. As the party season is upon us the game is simple, lets have a disco! Post your floor fillers below. Most up arrows wins, cheesier the better. Last on on the dancefloor buys the next round.
Let's get the party started....

1

The Rolling Stones - 'Jumpin' Jack Flash'

Cheese-free in its original form, I'm afraid. Great dance tune though...

2
Patrick Crowther | 13 December 2011 - 9:23pm

Junior Senior - Move Your Feet

7
toiras34 | 13 December 2011 - 9:23pm

That is one if he best, 'funnest', music videos I've ever seen

I'm grinning like an idiot now :-)

1
stimpy | 13 December 2011 - 9:38pm

Yep

It does that to me every time :-D

0
toiras34 | 13 December 2011 - 11:12pm

Stimpy has well and truly

hit the nail on the head. This video is probably the memorable highlight to my (very brief) gym going phase. Great track!

daddyclark | 14 December 2011 - 9:17pm
jackthebiscuit | 13 December 2011 - 9:23pm

Blimey.. That's a video..

Which reminds me. I must take those blancmanges out of the fridge.

2
Lenny Law | 13 December 2011 - 11:48pm

The other day my Iphone

wouldn't let me on the site because it couldn't verify I was over 18. this must have been the "adult content" to which the pop up referred! and its to your credit.

0
daddyclark | 14 December 2011 - 9:19pm

don't we have enough beards on here?

enough I say!

0
Nick Duvet | 14 December 2011 - 11:04pm

This is...

...genuinely one of the greatest singles ever. The middle eight, 'Once you get started...' and those fantastic keyboard arpeggios make me shiver every time.

3
pocket.calculator | 13 December 2011 - 9:24pm

genuinely one of the greatest singles ever

Couldnt agree more

Lionel Richies finest moment bar none.

fabulous record.

0
jackthebiscuit | 15 December 2011 - 2:27pm

THIS...

...was Nigel Rich Tea's finest moment, surely?

1
Paolo Meccano | 17 December 2011 - 2:31pm

Divine 'Native Love'

I can still feel the excitement I felt when this used to come on at The State in Liverpool, early '80s.
Woo-yeah!

2
Georgedivided | 13 December 2011 - 9:36pm

Past Experience says:

"This one works - just don't play the full version. Maybe just play it from about 3:30" (the murderous looks of bemusement aimed at the DJ whilst part one is playing continue to haunt me)

Sparks - Number One Song In Heaven

1
Rigid Digit | 13 December 2011 - 9:41pm

Euro electro

Cerrone - Supernature

2
Sven Garlic | 13 December 2011 - 9:40pm

How Soon Is Rose Royce

1
Formbyman | 13 December 2011 - 9:46pm

Irresistible

Deee-Lite with Groove is in the Heart. Commentary from Bootsy Collins.

3
Dadwardo | 13 December 2011 - 9:57pm

Great one

:)

0
daddyclark | 13 December 2011 - 9:58pm

After NMTB

Heatwave - Boogie Nights

"Got to keep on dancing..." etc

And the suits in this are outstanding. I may have to get one.

1
badger_king | 13 December 2011 - 10:11pm

Difficult one this....

But I'm gonna go for this big early house tune. You can't help but dance....

Inner City - Good Life

1
art vanderlay | 13 December 2011 - 11:01pm

Tell me someting. You can play bass?

Double Trouble & The Rebel MC - Street Tuff.

4
Bob | 13 December 2011 - 11:16pm

Oh

Oh Bob thank you! I love Rebel MC but had forgotten.

0
toiras34 | 13 December 2011 - 11:22pm

And is he a Yankee?

0
Lenny Law | 13 December 2011 - 11:49pm

Nah he's a Lahndahnah

!

0
Dadwardo | 14 December 2011 - 3:43am

You're more than welcome.

Just thinking about that track makes me want to dance. I won't, though. I'm on a train. It would be distressing for all.

0
Bob | 15 December 2011 - 2:31pm

Bob

Great choice, ditto Lenny's.

0
daddyclark | 14 December 2011 - 9:33pm

Which got me thinking

about the days when we used to go clubbing (many years ago) here was one from then

and this was the track that always used to end the night, when there were two 2 o'clocks in the day that didn't involve sleepless children.

0
daddyclark | 14 December 2011 - 9:41pm

Forty five!

My only moment of music prescience ever was when I bought the original single of Brimful of Asha, listened to it and thought "fuck me, with more of a beat, this would be number one forever".

I loved Big Beat. It sounds quite dated these days, but I loved it at the time. Here are a couple of guaranteed GO NUTS moments from the late nineties:

(Midfield General - Go Off)

(Beastie Boys - Body Movin' (Fatboy Slim remix))

(Wildchild - Renegade Master (Fatboy Slim remix))

In his heyday, that Cook feller knew the crack.

0
Bob | 14 December 2011 - 9:58pm

Can't (big) beat a bit of the Fat Boy

Was going to post Rockerfeller Skank but thought of Cornershop first (like the man says everyone needs a bosom for a pillow). Your mention of big beat though brought this to mind.

Best trivia fact about this track is when Chris Evans was just going into his "fruitcake" years he put this on about half seven in the morning on the Radio1 Breakfast show without previously listening to it just because it had Noel on it. He took it off after about 25 seconds because "it was a bit loud for this time of the morning!"

0
daddyclark | 14 December 2011 - 10:21pm

Fatboy Slim is f-ing in Devon

Or something. Have been listening to the 2nd and 3rd albums of his this week out of a sense of fuzzy nostalgia, and yes, they are still really good. YCALWB was one of the first albums I ever owned as a boy. Must have been 1999 when I got it.

But for dancing purposes, you can't get much better than "Ya Mama" with its funky video and insistent bass line. PUSH THE TEMPO

1
badger_king | 17 December 2011 - 9:33pm

I couldn't agree more

I've just had to put it on. Both the albums you mention are great. Norman cook was definitely on fire in those days.

0
daddyclark | 17 December 2011 - 10:31pm

Music for Bloke Dancing.

Irrepressible, joyous, fantastic, shouty.

3
Lenny Law | 13 December 2011 - 11:52pm

Even better than Street Tuff

And I didn't think such a thing was possible.

1
Dadwardo | 14 December 2011 - 3:46am

Still makes me all goose-pimply

Maybe it only works if you're a Paddy, but brilliant use in a Caffrey's ad from the late nineties. Miller's Crossing theme doesn't hurt, either.

0
Dadwardo | 16 December 2011 - 12:29am

YES

Oh, thank you from the shallows of my mind

I have spent the last three days going "I know that opening from somewhere, what the hell is it?"

Caffreys. Of course it was. I was expending far too much energy on that.

0
sitheref2409 | 16 December 2011 - 1:40am

Never

Out of my all time top ten. The most uplifting intro ever... maybe There She Goes too.

0

Richard Lowe | 14 December 2011 - 1:05am

The correct Rowland

3
sitheref2409 | 14 December 2011 - 3:23am

One from 2011

Holy Ghost! - Some Children (ft Michael McDonald)

Nice video mash-up from the height of 70s disco line dancing.

1
Ahh_Bisto | 14 December 2011 - 1:19pm

Ah well, *I* like it...

A song so great, even Dannii Minogue couldn't ruin it.

(Stacy Lattisaw - Jump to the Beat)

2
Paolo Meccano | 14 December 2011 - 3:39pm

My favorite disco diva, my favorite tune by her.

Lolleata Holloway, Runaway.

rocker43 | 14 December 2011 - 10:36pm

good party so far

right, it's my round. what you all drinkin? And Mr DJ line this one up please.

3
rocker43 | 14 December 2011 - 10:43pm

Well seeing as you so kindly offered

it's probably not quite late enough in the evening for this but...

0
daddyclark | 15 December 2011 - 8:53pm

Go on then

1
Chris M | 15 December 2011 - 9:29pm

And now the end is near

we've reached the end of of evenings entertainment so lets slow it down a notch or to. Take the hand of the one you love (or at least hope to cop off with later) and shuffle round the floor to this...

And please leave quietly on the way home so we don't offend the neighbours. Thanks for tuning in :)

0
daddyclark | 16 December 2011 - 9:29pm

*sigh*

Things were so much simpler then. Our generation was about to inherit/take over the world and the time was pregnant with possibilities. Four blokes managed to capture the zeitgeist like no-one has before or since.

Why did it all have to get so complicated and f*cked up...

1
stimpy | 16 December 2011 - 10:02pm

As long as enough of us still believe

In the sentiment of the song (and here at least the majority surely do) we'll be ok in the long run. Especially in our virtual world where junior senior gets the most ups for being "funnest". Chin up mr stimpy :)

0
daddyclark | 16 December 2011 - 10:53pm

Is it too late for the progressive-rock disco after-party?

...if not, then we NEED 'My Sweetheart' by Focus. Dig the groove, daddio!

0
Colin H | 17 December 2011 - 2:39pm

For you Colin

it's never too late, all round to yours then? PS this tracks only 3 1/2 minutes long what's happening to you :)

0
daddyclark | 17 December 2011 - 3:05pm

Then let's ramp it up... to FOUR minutes, Daddio!

...with some more prog-funk-fusion, from the Beckmeister along with a camp man on keys and a scary looking fellow on bass. It's a band called Upp. Get DOWN!

0
Colin H | 17 December 2011 - 3:44pm

Scary looking fellow on bass claimed to be called

Stephen Amazing.

His claim was somewhat undermined by the songwriting credits which, largely, read 'Clark/Copley/Field'. Given the other members of the band were happy to be known as Jim Copley and Andy Clark then, one can assume that Mr. Amazing was actually called Stephen Field :-)

0
stimpy | 17 December 2011 - 4:28pm

I'm going for two more

You Gave Me Love - Crown Heights Affair

and Shame - Evelyn 'Champagne'King

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=9AcfkvgDkWc

3
tiggerlion | 17 December 2011 - 2:58pm

Great call on both Tigger

By those choices I suspect I'm not the only old soulboy here...

0
art vanderlay | 20 December 2011 - 8:51pm

Strangely overlooked these days

but still a tune!!!

1
GunsOfBrixton | 17 December 2011 - 9:57pm

Another great call Guns...

Those guys look like they're having the time of their fucking lives in that video. I just wish I could have joined them.
