When:
Saturday 24th September
Where:
Clitheroe Grand
Comments:
A rare visit to the North West for the 8 piece Art and Soul band who have a great reputation on the Scooterist scene. Formed by former Tamworth face Mark Mortimer and fronted by the doe-eyed Karla Milton, the Fontanas tore into a set of Hammond and Horn heavy tunes aimed squarely at the feet. Musically tight and obviously enjoying themselves, they dispensed Wade in the Water, Green Onions and rare groove Meshkalina together with their own material with panache and flair that caused an outbreak of that curious mod style elbows and shuffling style dancing. Booked as support for the reformed Lambrettas they (whisper it quietly) blew them offstage.
The Audience:
Mods. Old mods, young mods, lady mods, gentlemen mods. Well it was a Mod and Soul weekender. Nice suits and dresses.
Food & Drink:
All the usual beers, wines and the like at reasonable prices. The bar area is raised at the end of the room so you can watch the acts and guzzle to your hearts content should that be your thing.
It Made Me Think...:
Why should these scooterists have all the fun? The Fontanas demand a bigger stage and their you tube videos give you an idea where they are coming from (Portmerion via Paris I think )
