Cyprus Avenue 1973 - it doesn't get any better than this

stimpy's picture

Having spent the morning listening to the various versions of Dark Side Of The Moon from the Immersion box, I had the urge for something a little more 'passionate'.

This came to mind - Van at his absolute peak (1973) with the best band he ever had

Much as I love the Floyd, sometimes you just need to hear someone giving it 100% and, in my experience, the Caledonian Soul Orchestra were never less than 100% soul and passion.

I live a couple of streets away from...

...Cyprus Avenue, Stimps. Not sure if it's generally known that Ian Paisley lives on the street. (Johnny Rogan spent a whole book trying to link the two old buffers but only came up with a fur hat in common.)

I saw a badger pottering down Cyprus Avenue one evening - a quiet evening, twilight, no cars around just me on the pavement and this badger going about its business in a leisurely fashion. It was fascinating. Halfway down the street the badger turned left towards an old railway cutting that runs parallel with the street (now a cycle path/walkway) and disappeared from view. It was much better perambulating with that badger than it would have been to have bumped into Van (or Paisley). It isn't why, why, why - it just is.

A breeze in the sense of...

...a 200 mile round trip! Hard to justify that trip financially at all these days - even for a mingle...

great post

I was at the Free Trade Hall concert on this tour in 1973, he was surly, grumpy and had his manager come on stage and berate people taking photographs of him saying "Van is an artist etc" but the band and his voice that night were magnifico!
