CUD best live band ever...?

The world has just got that bit duller it's now a less vibrant less fun place. Last Saturday CUD played their last gig.
Thankfully my friends and I were there to see this momentous occasion at one of the best and certainly the hottest gig I've been to in a long while. Held in Rio's night club (formerly Heaven and Hell!) Carl and the boys proved why they were so great and why there weren't more popular. There appeal lies in being a really really great live band there lack of wider success because their songs and band persona only really came alive on stage. Their loud, joyous, dumb/clever songs only made sense in a huge crowd of people out to have a good time.
I won't go on just to reiterate that in an age of landfill indie, CUD will be greatly missed; joie vivre is always welcome and they had it by the udder load.
Ps oh and before anyone starts their excellent groovesome and seemingly unstoppable drummer is called Steve Goodwin.

Lastly on a general point has anyone else got any more bespoke pop memorabilia than my handmade CUD mug?

Did they support Big Country
Did they support Big Country in Newcastle about 9 years ago ?
Last summer
They played Summer Sundae in Leicester with audience members taking the place of Carl as he had to rush off when his wife went into labour early. It was both rich and er....strange.
I hope he...
sang their live favourite "push and shove" during the delivery.....
Curious CudFacts
1) Despite owning 'Elvis Belt' I never really "got" them personally but I have noticed throughout my life that they were very beloved of Cool Girls - including my wife.
2) Their manager was a designated priest in the Church Of The SubGenius.
always ahead
of their time they were into the whole "slacktime" thing years before the idler :)
ps. The audience on saturday was pleasingly mixed with cool women (we were all that bit older) and loads of sadly baldng men oh and amazingly a guy who slept through the whole show!
Cud - best gig this year but...
Now then,
The gig was fantastic but then I am nearly 6 foot tall. Unfortunately my friend isn't and had to watch it on a crappy screen at the back.
It would've been so much better if the venue and/or the band had been less greedy and sold a third less tickets so more people were able to actually see Cud as well as hear them. Those who missed out on tickets could've watched a youtube version taken from a mobile phone camera in the comfort of their living rooms - the 'magic' of the experience would have been the same and the video would be much better quality than that on the screens at Rios.
By the way, did I see Simon Frith in the audience?
I did
wonder about the venue there was a big series of gigs on in Leeds so maybe it was all that was left my mate was at the side and had the same problem a big shame really
Cud / Cherry Red
Cherry Red is reissuing Showbiz, Leggy Mambo and Elvis Belt. B-sides, and unissued tracks all included.

The unsupportive support band
I'm a fervent support of support bands but the dreary duo at the Rio's gig were a bitter disappointment. They didn't complement Cud's style at all. Does anyone know how or why they were chosen?
Also with you on this
without being too harsh I think they were "friends" of the band that or roadies, they were really bobbins hence the loud cheer when they left the stage.
