Crowded House Tonight

David Wright's picture

The day has finally come, a weeks leave beckons and tonight I finally see Crowded House for the first time . I've seen many gigs by Tim and Neil Finn together and solo but never Crowded House. Obviously I would love to have seen them when Tim was briefly in the band and Paul Hester was on drums, but I'm hoping tonights Manchester show will still have some Finn magic. Here's one of their well known songs.

You may have seen

David...you may have seen a few comments on here already about the House from earlier on the tour. You won't be disappoined, I assure you.

Cheers

Think I missed that thread, I'll have a look for it thanks.

Last Night

If tonight's show is even half as good as last night's effort, you are in for a treat.

Oh and as it's Mr Finn's birthday, there is apparently going to be cake.

No thread

but a few comments dotted about here and there......save yourself the effort David and concentrate on building up the anticipation.

However, I do issue a warning about the support act....would be interested in your views afterwards, or Riccardo's, and anyone else for that matter.

Connan Mockasin

I am still unsure about them. My initial thought was that they sounded a bit like Yo La Tengo in their more raucous moments, which is probably a bad thing. I don't regret turning up early for them, however, and they at least kept their set to within the half hour mark. Their presence as support act may be down to the fact that Neil Finn's son is their drummer.

Crowded House were magnificent, however. Saw them at Usher Hall, a lovely space to hear a band. It was NF's wife's birthday that night and there was indeed cake.

Enjoyed it too

It was probably the loosest, most laid-back gig I've ever been to though. Playing the demo handed to him by the guy at the front was a bit high risk, I thought - but it turned out to sound like Crowded House!

If anyone's interested

I reviewed the Edinburgh gig for theartsdesk here:

hi Graham

the first paragraph of the review looks quite interesting. Shame something about that ruddy site (or maybe my browser) insists that it 'flicks' back to the homepage after a few seconds...

*edit*

obviously the 'stop loading' button works, but it's still annoying!

Odd

Never come across that before. Works fine for me - sounds like a browser issue?

Liked Him

I quite liked the support act, loved his guitar sound, I thought his songs were very original and very dreamy. The whole band had wigs on which they threw off at one point in the show. Elroy Finn is a great drummer!

I'l try and be charitable

about the support band as I don't like to slag off any performer [yes I know it's fun], on the grounds that even a really shit one had got more talent and nerve than me to stand in front of several hundred [usually very disinterested] people and play. My considered opinion was they were "the landfillist of indie landfill"
