Counting The Beat
Posted by Mousey on 29 April 2010 - 11:35am.
Huge hit in New Zealand (from whence came songwriter/leader Phil Judd after he left Split Enz)) and then got to No 1 in Australia.
Still sounds "modern" or "contemporary" to my jaded ears.
Great song and great performance, great record.

Expecting this to be about classic count-ins on record, eg the HJH's I Saw Her Standing There commencing with Macca's "One-two-three-FAH!!"...
L&P
An awesome tune hijacked by Lemon & Paeroa for an ad campaign in the mid nineties if I recall correctly.
I remember when Split Enz first came to Australia
one of their fans told me Phil Judd was "the real talent of the band" Tim Finn was there but Neil Finn was unheard of as he would have scarcely started high school at that point.
I saw The Swingers live once, they were very good but there were only about twenty people in the audience though.
Here's a link to a very disturbing story from 2009 about Phil Judd.

This is good
As an Irish Finn Fan I bought this a few years ago to fill in some gaps in Antipodean pop. It's where I first heard Counting The Beat, it's a great comp:
