Count Arthur Strong

The Count's series one is currently on Radio 7 and the third series is on Radio 4. This fact has forced me to shell out the 20 squid odd on Audio Highjack.

I seem to remember there were some complaints from Radio 4 listeners saying that this programme was not very funny, so is it just me who thinks that Steve Delaney is a genius? In my opinion The Word should be being giving The Count some Face Time asap....

I still hold the opinion...

...that the first series was about as funny as a boot full of water. But the last one I heard was funny. And while we're plugging Radio Four comedy, I would also recommend "Fags, Mags and Bags". Very good joke about the natural colour of cheese and onion crisps last night.

Fags etc

Can I second the Fags Bags & Mags comment -there is a brilliant creme egg set piece coming up too.

I've heard him on Mark Rdacliffe

and my heart sinks when he's on I just don't seem to find him funny, it seems to all delivery and no jokes.

Off the road

I heard him in the car on the way back from Asda this week. I nearly came off the road, I was laughing so much.

The spirit of Hylda Baker lives within him. Marvellous.

The Count doesn't do it for me either.

Will check out Fags, Mags & Bags on 'listen again'. Its tough for new R4 sitcoms, with the bar being set so high by the likes of Clare in the Community and Ed Reardon's Week.
I did enjoy Rudy's Rare Records a few months back.

Hard to explain

why he's funny, and the early R4 series did sound like they were stretching a 5 minute spot into half an hour, but the latest featuring Sue Perkins and Barry Cryer as his foils was painfully good.

And Fags Mags & Bags I agree - caught the end of it last night, even better than Ed Reardon I thought (which is starting to sound slightly tired to me)

Does anyone here...

...rate "Nebulous"? I think it's wonderful. Also Ed Reardon's Week. And Why oh Why aren't any more 99p Challenges going to be made?

I'll give Fags Mags... a shot on the above recommendations. Listened to Hut 33 though and thought it was dire!

I agree on Ed Reardon

another excellent character driven comedy

Fags Mags and Bags

Very funny first episode, charting a customer's slide into depression by her magazine subscription in the corner shop. "Started with Cosmo, then cancelled it - replaced it with Bella, then Take A Break. Now she just buys Puzzler." Also the cut price Action Man that the shop sells called Moving Alan. He comes in many guises Jungle Alan, Tennis Alan, Desert Storm Alan - but above all this Moving Alan has one key attribute - he's a pound.

Yeh it's rare I laugh out loud at Radio 4 comedy that isn't The News Quiz or 'Clue'. Oh and Zilster you're quite right, Hut 33 is dreadful.

i hate to court controversy...

... but I really like Count Arthur and F, M & Bs

Count me in

Had never heard of either until this week, when I heard them both. Wasn't sure about Count Arthur until he did the 'best served cold' joke which made me honk out loud. He seems worth the effort.

Fags, Mags and Bags was quite brilliant from the off. Is this the same set of characters from the shop in BBC's 'Still Game'?

I dunno. . .

Harry Worth meets Miss Slocombe. Not exactly Peter Cook, is it?
