Cool Websites

humphreym's picture

Just discovered a cool site that streams live concerts. It's called Wolfgang's Vault (http://www.wolfgangsvault.com/)just click on 'Concert Vault' and you get a ton of live gigs! It requires you to register but it's worth it. The other site I've found (thanks to on of the Word massive!) is Deezer. Excellent site that allows you to stream full albums, and it's completely legal! Anyone got anymore to add?

I don't know how kosher this is, but it's not a bad source.

If you're old fashioned like me you might like...

www.secondspin.com

Second hand cds and dvds from the USA. They are dirt cheap. They have a very strict purchasing policy. The discs have to look flawless otherwise they don't accept them.

I've ordered from them almost 100 times and only ONE dud has snuck through. I got an Aaron Neville cd with a big gash in it. I complained and they sent me another free.

They have constant sales, currently its free postage if you spend over $50.00. As I live in Australia that's quite a consideration.

Once or twice a year they have 20% off PLUS free postage.

Just like ebay you can save searches. I currently have 250 of them. You can search on Artist, Album, Song title, genre and even price. There's also a "People who like this also like" section where I have got some great recommendations.

To give an idea on the prices I typed in Kate Bush as I know she is a Word favourite and got these responses.

Aerial $8.99
Hounds of Love $5.99
Lionheart $7.99
Red Shoes $4.99
Sensual World $5.99

That's five (as good as new) handpicked cds for about $33.00. Unlike shopping in person in the USA there is no sales tax to bite you.

Many, many are much cheaper. Aerial is at the upper range of cost. I've got dozens of things on spec, "Sounds of Brazil for $1.79, yeah why not?"

The postage charges are pretty reasonable anyway. No matter how many cds I order the postage is always about $10.00. Only when you involve dvds does the price seem to go up. I guess its the bigger packages.

When posting internationally they remove the jewel cases so you get these tiny jam-packed boxes. It generally takes three weeks to get to Australia.

The negatives are not many. Obviously you have to buy jewel cases separately which is a pain.

As they are second hand they have no guarantee of supply. If you order something and they find it's actually out of stock you miss out.

The dvds are all Region 1, so unless you have a multi format player they are no good.
