Collins and Herring on 6 Music this morning

D.Green's picture

Do they get paid for this?

3

I would let them have an 'off' day

but this is the third time I have heard them stand in for Adam and Joe.
Weak, lazy, self absorbed. 'Nonchalance' can soon be 'I really, really cant be arsed'.

God - they are talking about 'cassettes' and 'taping from the radio' etc as I am writing this.

Bang to rights

This negative PR stealth campaign is slow work

'Do they get paid for this?'

I do hope so. If I could ask that my licence fee got channeled specifically into paying for more of this stuff, I would.

we love Collings and Herrin

delightful waffle and bickering every Saturday
and the BBC do have at least 40 other stations you can choose from via the web.

Save 6music

Of course, I respect your opinion.

But it is crap.

D.Green | 6 March 2010 - 3:52pm

thanks

for that you've really made my day. God this place has got pretty tiresome recently.

2
Chris G | 7 March 2010 - 10:58pm

Have an up arrow!

I agree!

I don't even like

their podcasts very much. Have tried, but very little charm is contained within.

Grant | 6 March 2010 - 4:32pm

I was going to say

is it as "funny" as their podcast? Sounds like it.

Twangothan | 6 March 2010 - 4:51pm

Me too

Have listened to many of them, telling myself they will get better. But they don't.

It's disappointing, isn't it?

I quite like Andrew Collins and Richard Herring as individuals, and I like rambling podcasts (Adam and Joe, Mayo and Kermode, and The Word!) but the Collins and Herring podcast just leaves me cold for some reason. There does seem to be a deliberately puerile streak running through their humour, and a kind of wilful desire to appear nonchalant. I think you need a bit more charm for this kind of thing to work properly.

Some of their running gags are quite chucklesome: what was the thing about the sign saying "rhino not for sale?" or something? I quite liked that.

Stephen, can I cut and paste your post here?

because that is exactly what I meant to say earlier only I was feeling a bit grumpy.
I just think that if you are going to 'ramble' at least have some structure to fall back on when the steam goes. And I dont mean 'school nicknames'. These blokes are both staring back at forty arent they?
The Word/Mayo/A and J 'Axis of Good' are the right examples.
And...Im not a Collins naysayer. He is better on his own.

Agree

I have tried their 'cast a few times after people here promoted it but it just doesn't amuse me. AC is a fine fellow generally. Herrin just sounds like an idiot to me. Some particularly hilarious riff about him "converting" lesbians sticks in my mind unfortunately.

Agree

Herring sounded pickled this morning...

If it is to save itself

then 6music needs to do better. Over recent months I have listened much less - largely due to the increase in inane, puerile and the quite frankly boring ramblings of self-obsessed 'presenters'. For the same reason I can't stand the sound of Danny Baker. Just play the flipping music, is that too much to ask.

1
happy harry | 6 March 2010 - 6:27pm

I can't stand

most of the dull nu-country music Baker plays (except the Arthur Askey tunes) but I listen for his banter.

Different strokes n all that

Collins and Herring is mah favourite radio show......and you find few smarter standups that Mr H, his latest 'Hitler Moustache' show is a gem

Oh,

and I am one of the pro 6 music lobby.

Podcast

I haven't listened to the the C&H show but I do enjoy their podcast. And it seems to be very popular, given that they now do it live occasionally and sell plenty of tickets.
