Collecting Fever
Posted by Alex on 4 April 2008 - 1:30pm.
David Wright's "Most Treasured" blog entry reminded me that I used to be a big collector of singles (how could I forget? you ask - well it was a long time ago and they're all in storage in the loft)
I did have a habit of trying to get every available format (7", 12", pic disk etc) of a favourite single.
Consequently I am the proud owner of Wonderland by Big Country on:
7" single
7" gatefold single
7" picture disk
7" import (had a different b side I think)
12" single
12" gatefold single
12" picture disk
12" clear vinyl
Did anyone else share in this kind of madness?

Not as such.....
But I collect cover versions of songs I like: about 10 Dimmings of the Day, many other Richard T's, as well as, obviously, absolutely loads of Hey Joes, All Along the Watchtowers and Hallelujahs.
Wonderland has a good version by Betsy Cook, erstwhile (post Richard) Linda Thompson collaborator on "The Girl Who Ate Herself".
It's a good record generally
not i but
a friend of mine, who frequents this very parish is when confronted with an artist he likes a somewhat obessive collector of their output in all formats, regardless of how many copies of any particular track he ends up with. Frankly, madness that way lies.
