Classic Albums
This show was mentioned on a previous string - are blogs made of string? - and the few episodes that I've seen were fantastic. I even watched the Dark Side of the Moon one, and I've never understood the charms of The Floyd.
So, if you had to commission a new series, which albums would you choose?

These probably wouldn't get made, but...
"I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight" - Richard & Linda Thompson
"The Hissing Of Summer Lawns" - Joni Mitchell
"Gris Gris" - Dr John
"Sail Away" - Randy Newman
"Reign In Blood" - Slayer
Hejira
would be my choice from Joni.
A better road album I have never heard; I played it in the car to the exclusion of everything else for months on end when obliged to commute ten zillion miles a week a few years ago. Jaco Pastorius was a genius on that album too.
Gris Gris I'll definitely second; it would indeed be a blast to hear that one explained! Any contemporary footage would probably need subtitles.
It was a toss up between...
"Hissing" and "Hejira" for me. Perhaps they could both feature. I think there's something cosmic about the letter H and quality Joni albums. I would suggest that all her future releases start with H from now on.
I'd choose...
"Hounds of Love" by Kate Bush
Here's a few I'd like to see...
Burial - Untrue (I'd love to know how you can make this stuff at home in your bedroom)
Clash - London Calling (complete with Guy Stevens throwing stuff around the studio)
Anything by Bowie/Visconti, The Ramones or Massive Attack
The Steely Dan - Aja program in that series was great. It always a treat to here Fagen and Becker rambling on.
Others
The Zappa one was brilliant - and the "Machine Head" Deep Purple one was hilarious. Richie Blackmore comparing "Smoke on the water" to Beethoven.
Blackmore has a point though....
Beethoven's 9th: DER DER DER DERRRR
Smoke On The Water: DER DER DERRR, DER DER DER DERRR
LOL!
Mr Classical music expert, here! 9th? 5th!
I'd go for
1. Sly & the Family Stone - There's A Riot Goin' On
2. Jimi Hendrix - Electric Ladyland
3. Rolling Stones - Exile on Main Street
Sly
There's A Riot Goin' On. Now there‘s a tale. That's when Sly and Bobby Womack were tearing round the Hollywood hills in a camper van, off their faces and bumming drugs off Brian Wilson.
Happy days.
Classic albums
Agree with Hissing but not Hejira - great lyrics but the music was a bit pedestrian to my ears (okay they are made of cloth).
King of America would be interesting for me as it was first album without the Attractions (Not counting my aim is true).
Would also love to hear about Lucinda Williams 'Car wheels on a gravel road' and John Martyns 'Grace and Danger' or 'Solid Air'
not essentially 'classic', but interesting anyway...
The Clash - Sandinista - what were they thinking, and how did they export West London cool to New York?
Richard Thompson - Shoot Out The Lights - what was wrong with the first version?
CSNY - Deja Vu - "Neil Young has never played a team sport in his life - let's start with that, Stephen..."
Laurie Anderson - Big Science
Oh, and The Soft Boys - A Can of Bees - "So tell me Robyn, did you never think of letting Kimberly write a potential Eurovision-winning number for side two?"
Some more
Led Zeppelin 4
Carole King - Tapestry
I'll second Exile on Main Street, and/or Sticky Fingers
Prince - Sign 'O' the Times or Around the World in a Day
The Stone Roses
Remain in Light
I would like to see this Talking Heads album feature.
Reminds me I recall enjoying a South Bank Show on them around the time of Fear of Music. Used to be quite a few of this programme about decent music. Smiths were also on once. Well that's 2 anyway!
