Class
Couldn't agree more with the review of Lynne's new album. Havng followed her since 'I Am Shelby Lynne', her ability to produce great music in a variety of styles always impresses.
Almost too painful when, at 2.26, Lynne's voice cracks slightly.
This is the way all interpretations should be done; with grace, respect and a light touch. Fab.

Dare I say
that her version of Just A Little Lovin' betters Dusty's? And, rather less controversially, that Anyone Who Had A Heart is better than Cilla Black's...
Cilla
probably wouldn't need a new hat for a face-off, I agree.
As to your other supposition... don't know, haven't approached it from better or worse angle, just different.
I've always thought that a cover can be done in one of two ways; either you faithfully represent the original, all the way down to the triangle solo, or you take the essence of the song and make it your own. The latter approach when you're covering 'classics' is foolhardy at best, but every once in a while, someone comes along and just nails it.
And this is one of those moments, and what's more, a whole album's worth.
Interestingly, I think the only new composition on the album deserves attention for the way it fits so seamlessly into the greats that surround it. As I said, class...
I hope so!
Having listened to the My Space samples some time back, I wondered as to opinions. Imagine my surprise when those nice Word people decided it would be their enticement to take out a subscription, which I duly did. I await the 28 days until commencement with interest.
(Buuuuuut, BTW, the day after I forked out my £42, that nice Mr Ellen sent me an e mail offering the same subscription for £35. Would that/could that have included the CD, I wonder.......)
This is all so weird
I bought I Am Shelby Lynne and Dusty In Memphis on the same day, eight years ago. The two have always seemed kind of inseparable. And then this album comes along. It just feels so right.
Wondeful Stuff
A great album. Shelby is a great country singer as well. The lady certainly has Soul, like Dusty of course. Boy has she lived a life too. Isn't her sister, Alison Moorer, married to Steve Earle ?
Also, as what i believe is refered to as a " Guilty Pleasure" i love "Tell Me I'M Crazy "
