Christmas Subscription/Newsagent troubles
After dropping some Father Dougal-style hints about a Word subscription to my wife, Christmas (and, of course, she)was kind to me and I am now the proud owner of a brand spanking new Word subscription. I have confessed with shame before that I used to read the mag in its early days but apart from the odd appealing cover I hadn't been a regular for some time. I'm happy to say that the Podcast reignited my relationship and this time I promise to remain faithful to Word!
Of course, the icing on the cake was a letter through the post from Mr Mark "three reviews" Ellen thanking me and congratulating me on my impeccable taste (anytime!). The letter mentions not having to brave the newsagents anymore and frankly, this can only be a good thing. It seems that it is almost impossible to buy Word in the newsagents these days. The best place I've found is the WH Smith on New Street station. Every other newsagent/supermarket I've been to over the last couple of months seems to have every music magazine but Word. Borders is a good bet but when I can't get into Birmingham my quest ends in disappointment. Luckily, I've only got to get the current issue before my subscription kicks in so this won't be a problem for much longer.
Is it just me that has had this problem?

You mean....
...there's a magazine too, to go with the blogsite and podcast? Whatever will Mr Ellworth think of next?!
Distribution
The best place to get The Word is either WH Smith's or Borders, two retailers where we have full distribution. We have been trying since launch to get into more supermarkets but alas, we are a small independent and can't afford to 'promote' the magazine as much as our better financed competitors. It would help me if the next time you went into a newsagent or supermarket that didn't stock The Word, you asked them if they could order it. Might convince the automated spread sheets that make these decisions that they should give us a chance.
By far the best and chepest way of getting The Word is, of course, to subscribe.(only £3.50 an issue)
Tesco
Always pick up my copy in Tesco in Fforestfach, Swansea and they always stock it there. Never had a problem.
Subscriptions
I was a subscriber but unfortunately even though I'm just outside Dublin it always arrived 1 to 2 weeks after hitting the shops. So I went back to my overcharing newsagent instead.
Subs in Eire
I have been onto the company that deliver our overseas subs copies and they maintain that it takes between 3-5 days to deliver to Eire, along with the rest of Europe. This should mean it arrives before its in the shops anywhere in Europe.
Really sorry about your sub Springer. I know it can be really frustrating when it doesn't arrive before its in the shops. Go on try us again!
Jerry
Irish Subs
Jerry if you say it it must be true. I'll give you another go. Thanks for bothering.
Good to have another Brummie on board
I have been a subscriber since issue 3 I think. Its always in WH Smiths locally but usually in Sainsburys too.
Birmingham 2
There's at least 2 of us here then! Yeah, Smiths & Borders are best in Birmingham (and everywhere else by the sound of it). I work just outside Dudley and it's mostly Somerfield round there so no Word! My new subscription means that this won't be a problem much longer but I still need to pick up the Morrissey issue before it disappears. I'll have to wait until the weekend now, though but Sainsbury's could be an option if Smiths have run out - cheers!
Subscriber no WOR 15066??
Pchaw! Without going to check, I think I'm something like subscriber no WOR 423. That makes me feel all superior and warm inside.
Only joking, but I would be interested to know whs's your earliest subscriber who's still subscribing, who's not related to Messrs Hepworth, Ellen et all...
