Chippenham honks
Today I had confirmation once again that great music often finds me when I'm least expecting it.
I was sitting with my customary double espresso in the bucolic surrounds of Chippenham railway station when I spotted four gentlemen by the bus stop wielding instruments; a saxophone, a trombone, a bongo drum and - oh yes - a cowbell. They started to play and the air was filled with a most agreeable sound of polyrhythmic funky honking. I gleaned from the saxophonist that they were part of the Fall Out Marching Band who apparently have been going for ages and appear at CND rallies. They were destined for the Womad festival which I imagined would be most receptive to their good natured parping. I left them after a couple of tunes with a shout of "More cowbell!"
Here's a clip of the full ensemble...

Cheers Patrick
You got an 'up' purely for the 'More Cowbell' comment, although the good natured parping was nice too!
I'm giving you an up
For an expression which I think TV censors should now adopt when replacing the obscene epithet which refers to sexual union with the matriach of your family.
No longer should we be subjected to the risible replacements of "melon-farmers" or "monkey-freakers".
Henceforth they shall be known as "funky-honkers".
Well fancy that; Foxy Towers is just up the road.
Next time I'm in that rather charming little GWR Cotswold stone building, clutching a Grauniad, tottering towards a seat with my laptop slung jauntily over my shoulder and a Cappuccino balanced precariously in my hand, I'll look over to the internet connected PCs and wonder if one of the logged-on peeps is you.
I do hope you didn't fall foul of Platform 2's rather appalling lack of shelter when it rains.
Happy Harry's Hovel
is also fairly close by. My local pub is going to sans favourite bar maid tonight as I just saw her on the local news at Womad.
When I read the thread title
I thought you were going to complain about the smell, "polyrhythmic funky honking" made me glad that you weren't. Lovely as always Patrick, have an up.
