So QPR are fined £875k for apparently fielding an improperly registered player for most of the season, while earning goodness knows how many millions by being promoted to the Premiership next season. Yet again the football authorities deliver a well aimed kick in the proverbials to those that play by the rules.

Outside the law

Football seems to think it can often operate outside the law so when they try to police their own rules it can often be baffling to the outsider. I have a feeling that a lot of these decisions are made by a beat of five coin tossing contest!

It's one law for big London clubs ...

QPR and West Ham get away with it, yet a non-league team (whose name escapes me) get kicked out the FA Cup for fielding an ineligible player.

And the ridiculous length of time it took the FA to look into this ... it's almost as if they were waiting to find out how many points ahead QPR were at the end of the season so that, if they had to, they could deduct a number of points that wouldn't affect QPR's promotion.

Is that too cynical?

That would be the mighty..

Bury FC

Promoted this year as it happens

I'm glad QPR got promoted

because they deserved it. But the inconsistency that gets Leeds a 10 and 15 point deduction for the same administration, Luton a 30 point reduction but QPR a small fine is pathetic. But the issue to me is that points deductions need to be set out in stone if they are to be used, not varied and especially not voted on by other league clubs.

Don't get me started...

I'm just glad my club's still alive.

One google

Of the three owners of QPR suggests that a fine that small really is a drop in the ocean.

but having been a QPR supporter

for 40 very odd years today is very special.

Haven't been a QPR fan for quite that long

but otherwise agree. The dodgy dealings do leave a rather sour taste in the mouth though.

As a Norwich fan...

I have to say that QPR have been the most consistent side over the season and deserve to win the title. That said, however, there has been a case of blatant fraud committed here, and they should have been either docked points or had some kind of transfer embargo imposed upon them for next season. Fining them £875,000 is, in football terms, like penalising someone for an overdue library book.
Meanwhile, I reckon Forest will win the play-offs...

At the other end of the table.....

Growing up as a Sheffield United fan, it does appear rather ironic that the QPR manager is Neil Warnock, who was at the other side of the coin a couple of years ago when Sheffield United gone relegated due to another London club not getting a points deduction.

You are of course right....

And points should have been deducted.

However I can't help thinking it would be a cruel blow to both fans and, especially, the players, who have worked so hard and performed so well this season, to prevent their promotion for something they at least have no hand or influence in.

So congrats to QPR and welcome back and we'll see you up the arse.

Yep.....

.....my wife still goes and I'd wager that a large chunk (no, 'all') of that £900,000 is recouped through season ticket increases.

Pleased for Rangers but not pleased for the chancers who sit in the boardroom who presumably think that their dire running of the club over the last five years has now somehow been a success.

Still, with all the ludicrous kick-off times next season that she'll have to put up with it'll afford me more time in the pubs of East London after I've been to proper football at Clapton!

was in Shepherd's Bush yesterday

There was a heartwarming friendly celebrational vibe, with lots of scary-looking men hugging eachother tearfully. Fair warmed the cockles, so it did.

That's Leeds fans

for you. Happy to have done the double over the Champions.

Scant consolation

Leeds choked it again - know what you are going through - saw Birmingham in playoffs four consecutive years before they made it. Have to say though that QPR owners are pretty dodgy as were the Golds and Sullivan and also Bates. I think it you were to scratch below the surface the dealings at most football clubs are pretty murky.

As a Swansea supporter.....

As a Swansea supporter I assumed that QPR would be penalised for playing a player who's ownership was questionable from the start of this season (when the laws about third partner ownershp started in the Championship, 1st and 2nd divisions). My understanding was that he played 9 matches (7 wins and 2 draws) before QPR admitted "something was up". Precidents have been set that you get points deducted for illegible players (two lower league sides fined this season 1 pt and 3 points). Therefore I expected a points deduction of at least 9 points. That hasn't happened, that's life. I offer congatulations to QPR management, players and most importantly the fans. But not the board. Don't get me started on the paltry fine. It's like giving someone parking outside Lottery Hq to pick up a cheque for 8 million a parking ticket. Disgrace.

Great season

I'm a cardiff fan and it's been a fatastically entertaining season and the QPR situation seems to have taken some of that limelight away.
The two most consistent and hungry teams got promoted so well done to them and the play-off places are filled with 4 strong teams where there isn't much to choose between.
Steve, we might be seeing you at Wembley, it doesn't get more nerve racking than that!

As a Luton supporter I now

As a Luton supporter I now cease to be amazed at incompetent/inconsistent decision making .

We were docked an extra 10 points in one season on top of 20 for being technically still in administration (from the season before - when we were also hit -15 pts and relegated to League 2 ).

This was for an "offence " that we brought to the authorities attention and asked their advice on at the time - something to do with agents and holding companies .The FA said they`d get back to us -which they did 2 years later at the point we were about to start life in the bottom division on minus 20 .

So it was - 30 in total and virtually guaranteed relegation .

Incidentally the jokers who caused the chaotic financial mess were long gone by then but of course the supporters continue to suffer

We re now non league - but hopefully not for much longer ( play off semi 2nd leg tonight and 3-0 up )

Could still blow it but probable final v AFC Wimbledon -at Manchester ! - because apparently we can`t sully the sainted Wembley in a Champions League final week
