Celebration time!

Beany's picture

To all the old rockers out there, especially those debating the merits of Genesis... here's a clip from the OGWT (35 bloody years ago!!)

Chocolate Kings

Thanks for this Beany - Chocolate Kings popped up on my MP3 player last week and it reminded me of a PFM gig I was at which was delayed because their home made speakers weren't working. A local roadie who was good with electronics described the scene in the back of the cabinets as looking like a plate of coloured spaghetti (maybe an early design for the cover of PFM cook).

They evetually untangled the mess and the gig went ahead. It's that long ago now I can only assume it was good.

Marvellous

What a great way to start the year, some Italian prog. I used to have this on a single, was it on Manticore?

Think so Nick

My single is in the attic. They did a few classic tracks in their time. According to my ticket stub collection I saw them live but can't bloody remember doing 8-}

Bargepole wishes

a tolerable new year to one and all.

I definitely saw them

on the Chocolate Kings tour, Glasgow City Hall with Back Door as support - both were great and the place went bonkers for Celebration

Howzat!

"Italians have an inate sense of style"

Well, that's another myth put to rest

Can't say I, er, "dig" the Prog stuff much myself - but here's a bunch I came across in my ramblings in The Fields of Old and am rather partial to - East of Eden. (NB Not sure they qualify as "prog" - please advise)

A very twiddly, wiggly, noodly and Happy New Year to all you Prog-daddies out there

your post

prompted me to nip over to Spotify for a listen, has anyone else checked their page over there?
the biog is fine but the one album available certainly isn't by the above combo

Think

there's a bunch of mid 80s American college rockers of the same name. Not a patch on the loopy wizardry of Dave Arbus and crew

Sheev | 2 January 2010 - 8:00pm

Jeez man!

thanks, thought I was having a major 'senior moment'

They sound like Gong...

and it's 8 minutes long. Ergo, prog

I love a bit of prog, but that's mainly because I grew up with it. I don't think I could come at it now and appreciate it in the same way.

One of my faves from the classic prog era was ELP's Trilogy album, particularly because Keith Emerson played a lot of piano on it. Picking up the Italian theme again, here is someone's interpretation of Emerson's Fugue

Another prog classic..

Oh absolutely Sheev, East of Eden were. Now have you heard Family Entertainment?

0
Declan | 2 January 2010 - 12:23am

can't say I have

Declan. Is it E of E? I've only heard what E of E there is on You Tube.

But talking of Family - love "Burlesque".

0
Sheev | 2 January 2010 - 12:34am

No, it's Family

their second and greatest album, I think from '69

0
Declan | 2 January 2010 - 12:38am

Oh all right..

try this

0
Declan | 2 January 2010 - 12:42am

yes

I like that and the odd bit of Family wot I have heard - but I do find Roger Chapman's warblesome antics a bit rich for my ears fairly quickly.

I have to say that the track "Burlesque" is unfeasibly brilliant. A kind of mutant English funk unlike anything other than perhaps Dury/Blockheads at their peak.

And, of course, you know who. As usual

0
Sheev | 2 January 2010 - 8:27pm

please try

the Bandstand album, Wetton's on bass and backing vocals - yeah it is that good and allas comes in my top 5 ellpees

0
James Blast | 2 January 2010 - 9:11pm

And this..

split screen nonsense (but fun) from 4.00

0
Declan | 2 January 2010 - 12:36am

Time Flies

In with the old. In with the new. Lovely video.

Beany | 2 January 2010 - 10:48pm

It's a very good go at

track two, side one of Animals by The Pink Floyd
I like it and I like the Porcupine Tree, saw them at the Cottier on the Lightbulb Sun tour. Personally I've never thought they sounded like PF but they try their damnedest on this track to replicate Dogs and, fail miserably. Nice try Steven.

still, there's far worse out there

0
James Blast | 2 January 2010 - 11:02pm

Have another one then

An "oldie" from 1996. Pah! No video. (who's this Steven? I'm a saint old boy!)

0
Beany | 2 January 2010 - 11:05pm

nice to hear the album version

Old Bean, I was brought up on Coma Divine y'see.
And the Steven I referred to is Mr. Wilson, not he of the Pert Snouds ellpee of course.

ayethangyew

A definite purchase for 2010

Released last year, I've been waiting to see them live.
