Cathal Coughlan returns
Posted by spt on 22 June 2010 - 8:19am.
There's more than a handful of CC fans in the Massive. So, for any who don't do Facebook or visit the dark cobwebbed halls of his website, there is news. A new album Rancho Tetrahedron in August with a tour to boot. Two humble requests to whomsoever deems such matters:
- a decent piece in the mag;
- a slot on the Word stage at Latitude.
Hubristic thanks in advance.

oh excellent news
- cheers, spt. I'd love to see an interview in the magazine, too.
A truly interesting artist
And one of my all time favourites. Would also love to see a piece in the mag.

Listening to Rancho Tetrahedron
Second run through now and it seems to be at least up to his usual high standards. Haven't got this months mag yet (going shopping tomorrow) is it reviewed?
Anyone else formed an opinion yet?
haven't got my mitts on it yet
wanted to see if I could pick it up from the local record shop, but haven't managed to get there before closing time this week...
nothing in the mag, but that's not especially surprising
Yep, with wearying
Yep, with wearying predictability I see they haven't reviewed the album. I mean this is the man who was called the 'Greatest Living Irishman' in the magazine poll not that long ago, so why not give him the courtesy of maybe listening to his music when he makes one of his increasingly rare records, or is he just fodder for those kinds of page-filling and ultimately insincere polls? It actually makes me distrustful of the music press as a whole when such a talent goes ignored while we're served up the umpteenth interview with Nick Cave, a man who seems to serve as some kind of comfort blanket for ageing hipsters determined to still prove they're edgy.
*sighs*
Oh,
go home, Bible Mike.
Cathal's bigger in the tabloids these days
The Mirror, Sun and News Of The World all gave Rancho four stars.
Now on Spotify

I was also a bit disappointed that Word did not pick up on the new release, but seeing as they have scaled back the reviews in the face of ever-increasing mountains of new releases I wasn't altogether surprised. So I did one myself via the 'Nights In' facility on this site. If you feel strongly about it why not comment, or write your own review. I would love to hear what others think.
That's a great review,
That's a great review, cheers for that. Obviously the mag has a small review section but, still, wouldn've been nice. Odd that the tabloids have covered it, odd but welcome. I'm just bored of seeing the same people reviewed year in, year out. No doubt we'll see that new Eels record getting it's obligatory over-heated praise.
Anyway, glad some people love the record, it's a knotty affair lyrically but strikes me as his most accessible record in years.
Nice little bit in the latest mag
Cheers.
Just the one point deducted for "Couglan".
Like the record, though as usual it's taking its time.
Yes, really pleased to see
Yes, really pleased to see the great man in the new mag and it makes for interesting reading. After all these years he's still giving great interview quotes. Cheers!
