Can I haz an iPad app pleeeze?

Bignothing1's picture

Having been part of the gold rush on Friday, I was lucky enough for the FPO to cross the metropolis of Bolton to acquire an iPad for me.

I'm no apple fanboy (I had iriver and archos music players before succumbing to the apple machine), but I am blown away by it. The book reading is great, and the browsing easy and natural, and the apps can be excellent.

I downloaded the times app, which delivers an e-version of the paper every day. To have the paper delivered by 7 each morning, not to have them clogging up the lounge each week, and costing about a third of the cover price is excellent.

So, the question is, can The Word provide us with an app for the mag? I am a subscriber, and would be happy to pay the same price etc., but the option to have the mag with me wherever, and for the pile next to the bed to be removed is tempting. The current e-version of the mag relies on flash, so the iPad don't like it!

Can the massive indicate to word towers whether there would be such a demand?

I'd like one, too

Safari gets me so far, on my iPhone, but most people don't give clues about what their youtube link is.

Also an easy RSS feed on threads I have chipped in on would be handy : I probably could do that with the existing technology, but it would be nice.

Fourthed.

It mightn't appeal to all tastes but the FT app for iPad (free subscription until end of July) is really rather good. This is what portable computing should be like...

Well, I have but..........

It's based on flash, so the iPad won't play nice with it. Or at all! It's great on the pc and I would love to see this on the iPad in the same way

Yes

But the problem is that as a subscriber I wouldn't pay extra. It would be a nice perk for subscribers, or I might switch to a digital sub but i can't see myself paying on top of an existing sub.

Wired's app seems to be the gold standard for digital magazines. The Zinio stuff is less impressive but being able to subscribe to digital versions of Rolling Stone and Spin for under £20 for both for a year was very attractive considering I pay £40 a year for RS alone and have to wait two weeks to get it...

Rather than every subscription coming with a separate app

Apple sould develop a secure iMagazine app through which subscriptions can be bought and read, in a manner analogous to Podcasts within iTunes. All your magazines in one handy place...

zinio

Zinio pretty much replicates iBooks for magazines. Try it, as I say, Spin is £5 for a year so you could give that a punt for an idea.

Yes please

I would be happy to get a digital edition of Word on my iPad, for the same price, and not getting the mag in the mail. As long as I could keep the digital editions forever, move them between devices etc.
