Absolutely!

You can't beat The Mighty Sparrow!

But go for the older stuff - you can download King Sparrow's Calypso Carnival from this very site.

Byron Lee

and his fabulous Dragonaires. This gets a crowd on the dancefloor at any party in this neck of the woods.

The first calypso record

I ever heard was my Dad's. Among his record collection of 6 records (other highlights included, 'Strings for Pleasure Play the Music Of Bob Dylan' - I know, 'Popcorn' the lp by Hot Butter and A Roger Miller record that I still listen to, 'Ruby, Don't Take Your Love To Town') was 'Caribbean Carnival', by Russ Henderson & His Caribbean Boys.

I can't find those versions on YouTube, I assume it's an early reggaefied Top Of The Pops covers album. But here's some good versions of some of the songs.

Interestingly spelled version of 'Coconut Woman'.

Unusually, this one has a good video with it.

But yes, the Trojan Box set is fantastic.

Mark Ellen's house - he might not have a lot, but he knows exactly where it is...
