Entertainment For Lively Minds
Calm down, dear
Posted by minibreakfast on 7 February 2012 - 10:57pm.
I've been feeling mentally, a bit frazzled over the last couple of days, so earlier this evening I decided to try to relax and take my mind off things with some music.
Flipping through some records, my hand alighted upon America's Hearts LP and it occured to me that this is very often the album I go for when I really need to unbend. By the end I felt completely calm and refreshed; I almost always do.
What's your ideal record to stop your brain from twitching, your teeth from grinding? Classical or ambient? Doom metal or jazz? Or just some good old MOR country rock? Do share.

Comfort Albums
This has been discussed here before IIRC but for me Supertramp Breakfast in America is a nice comfort blanket.
My favourite track will always be Child Of Vision.
Sister golden hair -choon!
Don't know how that song never registered on my radar before. Thanks for posting that.
To answer the OP, it's a bit obvious, but either side 2 of Low or the Space Oddity album - and if things are really grim, I'll sing along to ALL of Cygnet Commitee.....
Lately...
it's been Jocie Adams' solo LP called Bed of notions. Comforting, deeply personal and with a touch of ordinary "je ne suis quoi". If the name rings a bell, yes, she plays and sings in The Low anthem.
Truelove's Gutter
by Richard Hawley
Found it only in the past few days but have played it end to end several times with no plans to stop just yet.
Melancholia writ large yet the languid arrangements just drip with melodies.
'Remorse Code' will make you stop breathing for long stretches.
Wait until
you hear his next one.....
Won't we all...?
Truelove's is a stunning piece of work, isn't it?
Air - Moon Safari
A modern classic.
Yep, another vote for Moon Safari
A gem of a record.
Jean Michel Jarre - Oxygene
Put this one on the turntable, turn the lights down low. Lie on your back on the floor and close your eyes. Splendid.
