Buddy Holly

Railroad Bill's picture

Buddy Holly would have been 75 today. Happy Birthday. He was the best of them all...

"He was the best of them all..."

No argument from me,Bill.
Happy Birthday Buddy.
Love this clip,Buddy's bike is an Ariel Cyclone (white seat) only 174 ever made, only 7 known to be left in mint condition including Buddy's(not original seat though)..
The Triumph looks like a 58 Thunderbird but Jerry Allison (Hooped shirt) bought a Triumph Trophy but it wasn't a twin like the one in the clip.
I'll get my Leather jacket....

No argument from me either!

I was just thinking - I have got/seen what i believe to be all the film clips of Buddy that are known to exist but with one exception..........cine film was taken during his last visit home to Lubbock at Christmas 1958. Has anyone seen it anywhere?

There was a Phillip Norman Ch4 documentary on Buddy years ago

...that had lots of rare home movie footage of Buddy. Can't swear if any of the Lubbock footage was in this though

Thanks for that

I think I would have seen it.
I keep looking on YouTube without luck! Maybe it remains with the family and hasn't ever been seen. I know Maria Elena was with him so perhaps she has it.........

Buddy Holly

Am I being sacreligious, arsey, or just daft when I say that I think, if he had lived, BH would have been bigger & better than Elvis?

The man was a genius IMHO.

Rave on.

The best

What a work rate. Just about every month from he recorded That'll Be The Day (Petty version) to his death, he recorded a song that has lived.

That's What They Say!

In case anyone is interested there is (another) 'tribute' album out. It's called Listen To Me Buddy Holly.
This is the second tribute in as many months. I think it is better than the last one (Rave On!) A real gem is Brian Wilson's take on Listen To Me also worth listening to the Fray(!) doing Take Your Time and Natalie Merchant's Learning the Game. Also Jeff Lynne's and Bongo's contributions.
