British Music TV

I live in Northern Virginia - one might argue a relatively upmarket area in the USA.

I have been lucky enough to get 'Later....with Jools' as well as the Elvis Costello shows.

I had a thought this evening. These shows don't exist in the USA. Or if they do, I've missed them. Jools is on 5 nights a week on a minority channel, and I record all of them; eclectic, and live. Some bands I hate, some are...meh, and some are great. (He currently has Foo Fighters playing, and they're blowing me away). It's a little like the CD I get with the Word.
The Costello show never ceases to make me happy. Intelligent conversation, great music - and the interview with Mary-Louise Parker clinched the deal :)

What shows am I missing? Am I over rating because of the paucity of quality music television? I appeal to the Massive to ground me in reality....

You're not missing anything.

Despite the fact that we have countless TV channels "Later..." is the only regular UK music show of any note.
BBC4 shows some excellent music documentaries but there is no other regular show that broadcasts new music performances that anyone over the age of 14 would be interested in (unless anyone in the Massive can correct me).

Later has a very wide musical remit (which is an essential part of the show to be fair) so can only feature a minute fraction of stuff so consequently there are loads of bands who would go down a storm on Later... but don't get a look in. Given that 'Live' is pretty much propping up the music industry I am amazed that they are not more keen to encourage more TV shows that can showcase new bands, together with established acts who are back on the road so that people might be prompted to buy gig tickets for once they've downloaded the free music...

Where are my glasses?

If Spectacle doesn't exist in the USA, where on Earth is it shown? We got season one here (shuffled about so most people would miss at least one ... and I'm not convinced it was all shown) but season two has yet to see the light of day here.

I don't know which of the Jools Holland shows you see but there are now two a week during the series. Same artists different tunes.

Whatever you think about The Digger...

Sky Arts does some pretty decent music programming.

Couldn't help but giggle, even though I do like Later...

Heard this Viz Top Tip the other day:

BANDS: Don't have a pianist? Get on 'Later With Jools Holland' and you'll have one play with you whether you want one or not.

Spectacle

By Elvis Costello Shows - I presume you mean "Spectacle with.." - which was commissioned by Sundance Channel - which I believe is US based. Great Show - the Springsteen interviews in the last series (over two programs) were excellent.
