BRIT awards

whitehorsehill's picture

I'm not in the slightest fussed who wins, but I must admit I heartily agree with the Guardian's front page today:

Could that picture be any bigger?

I ADORE KATE...

...but I honestly thought it was a Twitter joke she had been nominated. She has been nominated nearly every year of my memory, despite releasing three records in 20 years.

And this for an LP which even many Kate fans were underwhelmed with.

As I say, I love Kate, she's in my top five of all-time, but I find the nomination completely chucklesome.

I love Kate too

but assuming that the nomination is for her current album I think it is misplaced. I have tried to get on with this piece of work but it is pretty turgid and slow paced. Not her best by any stretch.

Best Female Artist award...

Am I right in thinking, then, that this will mean she plays live at the ceremony?

Or does that only happen if you're specifically up for best single or album or something?

No

only selected acts will perform, and these will be tightly knitted in with record company marketing plans.
If Kate were to suddenly return to the stage, I can imagine the Brits would want to make a bit more of a big deal of it and she'd be up for a lifetime achievement award instead of The Blur. Of course I could be proved wrong and there will be a big musical number based around one of the more catchy numbers from the new LP (...er) or maybe she'll come on and do a duet with Florence or the winner of the best Female Artist Award which will of course be Adele.

I wondered if...

...there was some possibility of doing something a bit unusual and theatrical.

Like the way she performed 'Experiment IV' on Wogan in a white coat sitting at a desk:

But if Kate Bush wins

over Adele, it would be a complete travesty wouldn't it?

2
Leedsboy | 13 January 2012 - 1:45pm

Travesty!

...when the feelin's gone and you can't go on, it's..." oh come on, join in at the back there.

Not for me it wouldn't

I don't have anything against Adele. And, like the lead Heather in Heathers says, I don't have anything for her either. It's great that Kate's been nominated (in so far as it matters, ie hardly at all) in a year when she's actually made a great album.

The Brits are the awards of the British Phonographic Industry

Last year Adele dominated the British Phonographic Industry like George Michael dominated Wham! I think she just might get an award.

When I clicked your link...

...I was taken to a page of Guardian stories the top one was ' 'Spurs can win title' says Van de Vaart.'. Which was nice.

I've no idea who

Ed Sheeran is but he looks set to scoop lots of awards. I've Just seen his picture on the NME site, here he is..oozing star quality.
He looks like a work experience kid who has come to fix a photocopier. What happened to proper pop stars with an image like Marc Bolan, Bowie, Adam Ant, Morrissey or Mr C from the Shamen?

Having seen the other thread

with the TOTP video for Summertime City, I would say we have found the secret lovechild of Mike Batt and Madame Cholet.

I think

That the reason I have no interest in Kate bush is because when I first became aware of the Brits back in the Smash Hits years she would be nominated every year despite having done nothing. I suppose this time she does at least have an album out. Adele should win though. Or PJ Harvey.

0
daddyclark | 14 January 2012 - 5:45pm

PJ Harvey

should at least have been nominated in the Best British Female category. Her achievements during the year outstripped Kate Bush by a country mile. Adele will still win though, and given the commercial orientation of the Brits, I'd find it hard to disagree with that result.

PJ Harvey

You know what, I didn't realise she hadn't been. I assumed it was a given. It was appear that the Brit nominations are exactly as they were during my smash hit years, a bit bobbins!
