Boy! Life's a Beach!

daff's picture

I thought one or two of you may be interested............a few days ago I came across an album from last year by Beach Boy Al Jardine and quite good it is too!
It is called A Postcard From California and is probably the closest thing to a 'proper' BB's album since 'Holland' in the 70's.
It features all the former 'Boys' except Dennis plus, amongst others Glen Campbell, Neil Young, David Crosby. I didn't know this album existed - certainly worth checking out if you are a fan of the Beach Boys!

Didn't know about this

I notice Amazon manufacture the CD ' on demand' which sounds interesting.
Are you sure Mike Love and Bruce Johnston appear? I thought they were not on speaking terms with Jardine. Not sure how you define 'proper' BBs album though, I think all the 70s and 80s albums feature all the surviving members (except Bruce who ducked out I the mid 70s). Beach Boys Love You is a 'proper' BBs album surely?

I Can Hear Music!

Yep - it seems that he even managed to bury the hatchet with Mike Love - his vocals are on one track. Bruce J is certainly on it too. Oddly enough Carl is also included! Seems that Al was working on a track years ago with him and finished it for the album.
I accept what you say about a 'proper BB's album' it's just that for me Holland was their last half decent one.

Ah I see

You're right about Holland. All the subsequent Lps have their moments (you could fashion maybe 3 Lps worth of gems from the whole lot I reckon) but they're tough to get through without skipping a few tracks. Brian Wilson occasionally claims ' Love You' is better than Pet Sounds and says his favourite song is Ding Dang...mad as a box of frogs.
I will check out Mr Jardines effort, thanks for the tip.

Spotify

I am having fun listening to this on Spotify. Pity about the weather though, "white cloud" here in leafy Surrey as the BBC puts it but I could imagine I was in Big Sur which is, by the way, where Al Jardine lives.
