Boxing clever

as details are revealed of the 'Immersion' version of 'The Wall' and the deluxe version of 'Quadrophenia'
http://www.superdeluxeedition.com/
Bargepole asks if these represent value for money, and which,if any, you'll be buying - and are there any other albums The Massive feel are deserving of this lavish treatment?
NB - anyone who bought the faulty deluxe version of Mike
Oldfield's 'Incantations' issued recently can obtain a free replacement from Universal - great service from them.

Thought you
Were on about the Heavyweight Championship of the World, live at eight on Skysorts 3,must get out more.
So, it looks like the Wall DVD isnt going to be the
pro-shot footage of Earls Court 1981? Bah!
Well if you want that
ahem, you just have to ask.....
Oh I've already got it, thanks
but I'd bet the copy in the Floyd archive is a lot sharper than the copies floating around Bittorrent :-)
I'd really have hoped to see a properly restored version in the Wall box. Ho hum...
Well Waters was apparently looking
at the 1981 footage to work it up for release so obviously those claims of using the wrong film stock originally and such have stopped it.
Those Wall demos are pretty much all in circulation too I don't see who this appeals to apart from the completist. and maybe that's it. I have several CDs of Smile sessions \ versions of the LP and I've still preordered the official box set.
The rest of the upcoming "deluxe editions" its the DVDs that appeal -the Nirvana live at Paramount Theatre and the U2 making of Achtung plus all the relevant material. They are releasing the Nirvana DVD separately and so I won't be bothering with the box.
And as for these deluxe vinyls of the albums over 8 sides for 50 notes - on yer bike. Just pick up original pressings that will flood Ebay.
Ahem ... crawl, crawl, awfully nice Mr DFB
if something of that ilk could find its way in my direction I'd be very grateful. Still hoping to be at the meet on Friday. Bows with deference.
can't see an official release
anytime soon with the Athens shows on the recent Wall tour being filmed for an upcoming dvd.
Shame as this would seem to have been the perfect opportunity.
Wall demos
Be interested to see which demos are on the Wall package. There seem to quite a few around. I'm sure I've got about 2 or 3 different ones - all of hi quality.
Of course... When Love Breaks Down
Damned if I've been trying to place Boxing Clever in a lyric. Only one of my favist records in the world of all time ever... D'oh.
spending pocket money
I'll invest in some of the Floyd immersion stuff, probably Meddle, DSOTM, Wish you were here and The Wall.
Will get the reissued Nirvana "Nevermind" package too.
I also heard that the Stones were releasing another concert from the archives soon, one recorded in Texas in 1978 during the Some Girls tour. I'm a bit of a completist when it comes to the Stones live.
You are indeed correct

As good an opportunity as any for me to moan about...
... The Smiths megabox about to appear. As lovely as it undoubtedly is, would it really have been that difficult to include a CD mopping up the last few B-sides never to make it to CD, or the complete BBC sessions, or even, heaven help us, the Troy Tate version of the debut album? The B-sides at least should have been a given. Shame.
You get what you pay for....
....and in 2011 I'd argue that the more you pay for something the less you get but, of course, this adage might not apply to plumbers or roofers.
However, it definitely in this post-copyright age applies to popular music.
Seen at Sainsbury's this morning:
Elvis Presley 3-CD box set, 75 tracks, (including 'Hound Dog', 'Don't Be Cruel', 'Blue Suede Shoes' and nothing after the army).....
Erm.....that'll be the three notes, sir.
'Immersion' set of boring prog album.....
Erm.....that'll be the eighty eight pounds, not forgetting the ninety three pence, sir.
I think it's only these over-priced 'collector's items' that are keeping the record industry going.
Other opinions are available.
That
and places like Sainsbury's undercutting independant record shops and putting them out of business.
Elvis is King....not THAT one obviously
Only.....
....one Elvis.
Presley.
Never been another.
And the £3 price isn't unique to Sainsbury's as I believe that this particular release clocks in at under a fiver everywhere.
Anyway, it turns out that today the EC (is it still the EC?) will be voting to put back copyright control a further 20 years, just in time for the fiftieth anniversary of 'Love Me Do' next year.
Ipso Facto: get the only Elvis worth buying 'now' while it's fantastic value for money.....or, as OOAA, pay £100 for a U2 or Pink Floyd CD.
Isn't that copyright case
being dubbed "The Cliff Richard Clause" as he's been one of the most vocal about it. Thankfully not actually singing as Wimbledon now has that sliding roof when it rains
Last time i was in Fopp I'm sure they had the Elvis 50's Masters set for a tenner. And the Boss Born To Run for 8 which includes the CD remastered, a feature length making of docco and the DVD of the Hammy O 1975 show.
Everything's Vietnam
I recently bought this
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Next-Stop-Vietnam-Various-Artists/dp/B003EXVU0O...
And despite the hefty price tag it's fabulous. Worth every penny.
I'd happily shell out for a themed box set again. You don't see THAT many of them do you. But by the same token there are few box sets of artists I'd open my wallet for now.
