Black Keys
Posted by Chimney Singing... on 19 May 2010 - 9:48am.
I'd previously written off the Black Keys as a band doing something that the White Stripes were doing infinitely better. However, I may have been wrong - after hearing this single on 6Music, I went and bought the album and its a surprisingly diverse record with a nice thick sound and one which is destined to get lots of play throughout the summer....

Do yourself a favour
and check out Dan Auerbach (of The Black Keys)'s solo album from last year, Keep It Hid. You won't be disappointed. Takes that Black Keys pallette and adds in country, scratchy southern soul and a touch of pyschedelia. It's a belter.
Cheers Steve
I was planning to check out Blackroc too - the hip hop thing they did.
Someone told me to put Attack & Release on my buying list too.
They're busy lads aren't they?
I was listening
to the new album on Spotify yesterday. Their sound has fleshed out more but what I like about them are their pop and soul sensibilities which they coat in a retro-blues fug. They've not made it yet but I suspect they could deliver an absolute belter of an album if they keep mining at the musical seams the way they are.
I maybe in the minority
but I've always preferred the Black Keys to the White Stripes. Dan Auerbach's solo album is good. Mean Monsoon is worth the price of the album alone for me
Great band
Of course I have been following them since their first album, etc etc...
ANyway, it's been good to see them getting more and more mainstream and solidifying their success with each album. I remember after about the third album people (including me) were saying the formula was becoming stale and they would never last.
I've seen them live a couple of times. One of those bands you kind of wish had never become successful as they would sound far better in a little club rather than a big hall (I saw them both times at the ABC in Glasgow).
I'm hardly ever drawn to
I'm hardly ever drawn to young guitar bands any more but Attack & Release, their last, was a good album and looking forward to hearing the new one. The key is Dangermouse as producer. While they still sound traditional, with his hip hop background he definitely brings something different to the table.
This track from the
new album has really grabbed me.
Reminds me of Peter Green era Fleetwood Mac
Sold
Thanks Ahh_Bisto. Just bought it on the strength of that. Fantastic stuff.
