Bizarre moments in pop history
In 1998, a pop star looked to follow up his debut Top 20 hit with a new single. He decided to cover a Hall & Oates track (She's Gone) and teamed up with an up-and-coming girl band. So far, nothing out of the ordinary, but in hindsight, this really was an odd mix.
The singer in question was Matthew Marsden. You probably don't remember him; this was his final foray into the charts. He'd launched a (fleeting) pop career after leaving Coronation Street, where he played a mechanic who - like practically every male of a certain age who's been in Corrie - had an affair with Sally Webster.
The girl group you may have heard of. They were called Destiny's Child and since duetting with a Z-list soap actor, they've done rather well for themselves.
I still can't get my head round this; Destiny's Child were his back-up group.
Any other unlikely pairings or moments in pop that, with hindsight, just seem bizarre?

Kylie and Nick and a murder ballad
... always struck me as a tad incongruous. I suppose they are both Australian.
(Extra points for Hale and Pace)
Matthew Marsden
I know it looks strange in retrospect, but I remember Mr Marsden's star being very high at the time (albeit briefly).
In a 'what's he doing now, exactly?' moment, I looked up his Wikipedia page and he seems to be making a respectable living in Hollywood (LA, not Birmingham).
I'm from Hollywood, Birmingham
and we can count on such A listers as Gavin, from the Autoglass advert as neighbours! I bet Di Nero couldn't treat the chip on my windscreen, thus saving me money in the long run.
I remember Matthew Marsden very clearly too
(he was extreeeeeeeeemely good looking)
One of my friends
gets mixed up between Matthew Marsden, Michael Madsen and Vince Vaughn.
I can sort of see that possibly...
in the sense that MM and MM have similar names. Madsen and VV look sort of similarish. (I've always had a thing for VV, but I seem to be alone in that one)
Tony Sheridan
His backing band... now, what became of them?
I remember
Matthew Marsden in Corrie. Bonking Sally Webster wasn't he? I also remember looking on in bemusement as I realised that he was one of the grunts in Black Hawk Down.
The Troggs
and 3 members of REM recorded an album in 1991 called Athens Andover. Obviously Stipey did not want to compete with our Reg. The collaboration came about after REM performed Love Is All Around.
How about...
... Jimi Hendrix opening for The Monkees on an American tour in 1967?
