Best TV medical drama

Going to kick this off with Jed Mercurio's 'Bodies' (2004-2006), missed it when first on the Beeb but we roared through both series on DVD this summer (sometimes with fingers over our eyes) - really powerful on the politics and machinations of hospital life; sometimes funny, often shocking, storylines; great performances from the whole cast, including Keith Allen, Patrick Baladi and even Max Beesley.

Bodies was great, and probably the finest ever

Shame it had to come to an end. Cardiac Arrest was ace too.

Now, mock if you must, but I've been a Casualty fan for more than 20 years, and I watched 13 years of ER before all the characters I liked left.

I watched a bit of Angels from time to time as a child, and always found it rather bleak. It's never repeated or DVD. I wonder why not?

Can't stand syrupy shit like Gray's Anatomy or Private Practice, and I don't have the patience for Holby City. If I worked from home I know I'd be hooked on Doctors though.

loved bodies

and always liked ER. I only watch Casualty on christmas day along with other grim toss like eastenders and only then if there's not a charred turkey pan that doesn't need cleaning.

St Elsewhere

Was generally essential viewing. Spoiled only by the 'autistic boy with hospital snow globe - it was all in his imagination' finale.

Four words

Cardiac Arrest; Helen Baxendale.

Then there was Shane out of Neighbours on roller blades. Or Dr Raja using tea for a catheter. Nice.

Oh yes..

Dr Maitland..

Oh yes..

And it was written by Jed Mercurio as well. But under the pseudonym of Jed McLure.

Great series. Just great. I bought the box set a year or so back and watched the lot with my wife - an ITU nurse ten years younger than me.

She was horrified. As were all her friends who she lent it to.

They also think Bodies is great. But that might have something to do with Max Beeseley being in it.

Two reasons to watch Holby

Connie Beauchamp
Jaq Naylor

Savage bitching at its best, delivered by two basilisk beauties.

And lots of haematomas :-)

I always fond memories of

I always fond memories of Cardiac Arrest, and not just for Dr Maitland ... but seems so long since I've seen it ... having watched the box set does it stand up well Lenny?
How about ER, which I've never watched?

As good as it ever was, Paul.

Perhaps better.

ER is / was great. A lesson in all that is great about US TV and probably the pre-runner for all those wonderful series which we now love.

The FPO comes back after 14 hours working in ITU and wants to watch ER. That's how good it is.

Cheers Lenny I fancy

Cheers Lenny I fancy checking out the box set now. ER as well although it might take me a while to work my way through that one!

General Hospital

the 70s British version..... imagine Crossroads with catheters and you'll get the idea.
